AOC Played Among Us With Ilhan Omar, Pokimane, DrLupo, And Others On Twitch, And It Was Great

Pokimane, Hasan Piker, and other popular streamers join the congresswoman in flushing out Among Us impostors.

Update: As planned, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez streamed Among Us on Twitch Tuesday evening with popular streamers Pokimane, HasanAbi, Dr Lupo, and others joining in. Another US representative, Ilhan Omar, took part in the livestream event as well. The event was a huge success, attracting more than 430,000 concurrent viewers at its peak.

In her first round, AOC was the Imposter and she got caught. She got a little sneakier over time, successfully making it later into a match. She even had to slay Pokimane, despite her reservations. You can watch the full stream below, or check out some of the best moments from the stream.

Original story follows...

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to play Among Us on Twitch to help get people to vote—currently, her plan is to stream tonight, October 20, though no specific time has been announced. The New York Representative hasn't played Among Us before either, but streamers are already champing at the bit to get her on their stream. After her initial tweet, she sent out a follow-up asking for recommendations on who to play with.

The call for fellow players and streamers was met with several eager and high-profile volunteers, including Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar (who also has a Twitch channel now), streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker, streamer Pokimane, and more. Ocasio-Cortez expressed an interest in using the live stream to encourage more people to vote, which is definitely a good strategy—200,000 people are watching streamers play Among Us on Twitch right now, and that number will only grow as the day goes on. Early voting is happening right now, too.

Among Us has garnered increased popularity with players of late, despite having been released on PC almost two years ago. It puts up to 10 players together on a spaceship or similar closed area, where they're divided into two factions: crewmembers and imposters. The job of the crewmembers is to fix ship systems by interacting with a number of locations around the map, solving small puzzles. Imposters--who look just like crewmembers--are working against the rest of the group for their own agendas, and even have a limited ability to kill the crewmembers. So the real game is about the crewmembers trying to identify and eliminate the imposters before the imposters kill them all. Players can report dead bodies and call votes to try to weed out the imposters, but the imposters can lie to try to throw the other players off their trails and hide their identities.

Shortly after announcing her interest in playing Among Us with streamers on Twitch, Ocasio-Cortez announced she was setting up her channel. She later confirmed that she is "hoping" to stream Among Us tonight, October 20, but didn't provide a more specific time. If you're interested in tuning in, you can follow her on her new Twitch channel.

The United States has been setting records for voter turnout in 2020. More than 29 million people had voted by October 19, up from the 6 million that voted by this point in the 2016 election. It never hurts to get more people to vote, though, and Among Us is just the game to spread the word with. It's been getting more and more popular over the past few months. It broke more than 4 billion views on YouTube in September and has hundreds of thousands of players on Steam at any given time. It helps that you can murder Toad in the murder mystery simulator (with special character mods), too.

Other groups have started to take advantage of games to get the vote out. More Than A Vote, a voting rights group, is releasing content about the importance of voting on 2KTV, the in-game NBA 2K show. We're bound to see more as the election date grows closer.

Representative Ocasio-Cortez made waves in the game industry earlier this year when she tried to stop the US military from recruiting through platforms like Twitch. The measure she proposed was voted down in August. We don't know when she'll be hopping on Twitch to finish tasks, but we'll update you once we do know.

Some of the comments on here...man...your social studies teachers must be rolling in their grave if you guys really think her policies are communism. I swear, I wish we had an intelligent electorate. I'm not saying you have to agree with her, at least come at with something other than nonsensical talking points that make you sound like an idiot. John McCain daughter tried that when she was on that show and she basically ripped every single point apart....give it a listen.

Also, nice to see a member of Congress who isn't 100 years old actually acting like a real life human being, who seems to be a decent person if you agree with her politics or not.

@kellian1: so, I should google "John McCain daughter on that show" and give it a listen? Will do. Or, if you would specify which of Meghan McCain's appearances on which show you are talking about, I could narrow it down.

Be sure to go and vote, it is so important. Do not worry if a candidate of yours may not win, or the candidates on the ballot are not the one you want. Vote 'other' or Bernie or Mickey mouse. On issues, google them and make a decision or just leave it blank. If you do not know what candidate to vote for on lower ballots, look them up or just leave that blank.

Later on, politicians really, carefully, look at voters who did not vote 'their' way or voted in a direction you feel is important. And they will try harder to bring candidates and issues that help you or that you would be inclined to vote for. It would also tell them not to push a candidate or issue you would not like.

"Not voting is my way of voting" - never works - your non-participation then makes you invisible. At least if you vote, it shows you participate- that your vote is in play. Which means you can help shape the world for yourself and your children down the road. An American way.

@jenovaschilld: What you've said is only true for the majority opinion or what a political party thinks is the majority opinion, and even then the parties are more concerned with giving that opinion lip service while promoting candidates who serve the same financial interests as them. If you believe in a UBI, or in universal Healthcare, or in dramatically reducing the stranglehold that banks have on higher education, or that the most compassionate approach to prostitution is decriminalization, or that we should have a good reason for maybe 2 or 3 of our 9 currenr wars, the blues and the reds will never ever give you a candidate. I'm not convinced there's any effective form of protest vote right except voting independent/3rd party, and that'll only really become true when more people start doing it.

@id0ntkn0w7:

I agree with you too!! but please,... No please re-read my post above. When we vote people in office, or politicians - they do not really care about us... but they do care about getting votes and staying in office. There is nothing wrong with a majority opinion, after all that is democracy and civilization as we know it.

If they see 5 votes lion, 5 votes bear, 5 votes third party, and 5 bunny, (who is not even on the ticket), but along with 10 votes of people who never ever vote. So in regards to that issue or candidate; elected officials will work hard to keep their constituents, along with the other constituents, and try to pull as many bunny / third party votes to their sides as well. (through the creation of a lion -bunny or bear -bunny. The least important votes is the ones who never vote which they know those are the ones to screw over because they do not matter, or at least they will never vote about it. Hey! Democracy.

Independent or a no confidence vote is just the same and also just as important. You do not have to agree with the majority, but at least they know a potential voting block disagreed with both parties ideas and believe their is an alternative way. I live in a state that is almost always locked in on one party, but since I was 18 I have always voted for the candidate with the ideas I most cared about, which often was a third party candidate even if they were no on the ticket, like say a Bernie or a no confidence vote in the two that are running. But, I will always vote.

@ghost140: Ya, people are really wound up - that's what having access to unlimited resources for squabbling will do for ya! I wish the overall message that people would get from this is that it would be nice if all politicians did things like this to stay more in-touch with their constituents. Yes, we all know things like this are political stunts - so were the fireside chats with Roosevelt. They also provide unprecedented access that will potentially help the democratic process in the long run!

Wow, AOC is way too passive as an imposter, but Ilhan is way too aggressive.

Ilhan's daughter also played.
