Apex Legends And Titanfall Studio Appears To Cancel Unannounced FPS

The "unannounced incubation project" may have been a multiplayer FPS in the early stages of development.

An unannounced game from Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games, was apparently scrapped this week.

Former Respawn production coordinator Emilee Evans shared in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday that the "unannounced incubation project" she was involved in for the past year was canceled this week. While there is no concrete information on what the project was, a job posting for the studio's incubation game team from Respawn last year hinted that it was a multiplayer FPS in very early stages.

Reports indicated that Respawn was working on a game in the Titanfall universe, though it wasn't necessarily Titanfall 3. Titanfall director Steve Fukuda was also in charge of a small team for a project unrelated to Titanfall, as of 2023. It is unclear if the recently canceled game was either of these projects.

According to Evans's LinkedIn profile, she also supported the production of the VR game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond and an unreleased Star Wars FPS game. Last year, Respawn's Star Wars FPS, which was rumored to star a Mandalorian protagonist, was reportedly canned, and Respawn suffered from layoffs.

GameSpot has contacted EA about the specific game that was canceled and will update if and when we get a response.

With Respawn seemingly canceling another game, hardcore Titanfall fans remain disappointed at the dwindling odds of a follow-up entry in the franchise, which has only been kept somewhat alive through Apex Legends.

Players of the battle royale FPS, which recently celebrated its sixth anniversary, can expect a major "Apex 2.0" update sometime in the future, but not anytime soon. Respawn is also developing the next Star Wars Jedi game, which will be the last in a trilogy.
