Apple sells record 33.8 million iPhones in September quarter
Company sells record number of iPhones for September quarter; iPad sales reach 14.1 million.

Apple sold a record 33.8 million iPhones during the quarter ended September 30, the company announced today as part of its latest financial report.
33.8 million iPhones sold is a record for the September quarter and up from 26.9 million this time last year. In addition, Apple sold 14.1 million iPads during the quarter, up slightly from 14 million last year. Mac sales were 4.6 million for the period, down from 4.9 million this time last year.
Overall, Apple posted a net profit of $7.5 billion for the quarter, down from $8.2 billion last year. Total revenue for the period was $37.5 billion, up from $36 billion last year.
International sales made up 60 percent of Apple's quarterly revenue, the company said.
"We're pleased to report a strong finish to an amazing year with record fourth quarter revenue, including sales of almost 34 million iPhones," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement.
Earlier this month, Apple announced the iPad Air and a new Retina iPad mini. Both will go on sale beginning November 1.
