The Aquaman movie is to be directed by James Wan, who previously helmed such smashes as Furious 7 and the Conjuring movies. Wan is location scouting for the 2018 release, and posted some images of the incredible-looking places that are being considered for the movie. Aquaman will star Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis, while Amber Heard is to portray Mera, the Queen of the Sea. In December, Patrick Wilson was cast as Orm Marius, Aquaman's villainous half-brother.

Both Momoa and Heard will feature in this year's Justice League prior to Aquaman. Earlier this month, director Zack Snyder revealed some vfx test footage of Aquaman's underwater lair--check it out here.

In an interview last year, Wan explained why he was drawn to Aquaman. "I love the possibility of creating a whole new world," he said. "I've always wanted to do a world creation story and visually create this amazing, incredible, magical kingdom.

"I love the fact that Aquaman is an underdog character. I love the fact that people like to make fun of him. I feel the bar is a lot lower and I can have fun with him! What it allows me to do: I think people are a lot less precious with him than, let's say, you were doing a Spider-Man or a Batman or whatever."

Aquaman hits theaters on October 5, 2018.
