Assassin's Creed 3: Remastered Will Include New Stealth Gameplay Mechanics

More than just a visual remaster.

Ubisoft has announced the upcoming remaster for Assassin's Creed III will have gameplay improvements. The remaster will get additional updates in the Switch version too, most of which take advantage of the unique features of Nintendo's console.

The gameplay changes for Assassin's Creed III: Remastered are detailed in the March Monthly Update for Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft stated that many of the changes are to create a "better balance between action and stealth" in the game. Double assassinations, which existed in the original AC3, are now easier to pull off. Whistling to attract enemy guards, which you only could do from behind cover before, can now also be done from bushes. Free-aiming long-range weapons--which was added into the franchise in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag--is being implemented into the remaster as well, allowing more control with Ratonhnhaké:ton's pistols and bow.

AC3: Remastered also includes "additional weapons for crafting," an updated in-game economy, and a new UI that incorporates color-blind settings. The game will include new Legacy outfits as well, which allow Ratonhnhaké:ton to dress up as protagonists from other Assassin's Creed games, such as Origins' Bayek and Odyssey's Alexios.

For the Switch version, AC3: Remastered will receive a few additional gameplay changes. The Switch version will include touch screen support for navigating the game's menu. There will also be motion control for aiming with long-range weapons. The design of the UI will be tweaked for the Switch version to better adapt to the console's feature of going back and forth between docked and handheld, and HD rumble support has been added as well.

AC3: Remastered is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on March 29, and for Nintendo Switch on May 21. The game will release as a standalone title, but is also included in Odyssey's Season Pass.

The rest of the March Monthly Update details changes coming to Odyssey in the coming weeks. The new Abstergo-themed cosmetic items for Kassandra/Alexios and the Adrestia and her crew are coming out March 19, as is another Legendary ship lieutenant called Captain Octopus. A new Lost Tales of Greece, titled A Friend Worth Dying For, will be available March 26. Odyssey is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

@amichalski81: No, you're not crazy. Nothing wrong with waiting for a nice remaster of a game you liked that additionally addresses some issues with the original. Will always support honest efforts like that myself and I will also get it. Maybe just not on the 29th.

@ChrisAnetkaC: you may have a point - i have waited on buying the remaster Resident Evil 2 in hopes of a price decrease- why would i buy ACIII at full price if i can wait 4,5 6 months and see it on the PS flash sale for half the price?

@amichalski81: Ubisoft is not gonna like where we're going with this but that is a fact, especially if you have a large backlog.

@ChrisAnetkaC: and i do - boy do i ... it's actually sad that i spent a lot of 3+ years playing fallout 4 after the release in Nov of 2015. i barely played any other game until mid 2018. ( i had a glitch and could not finish the game with the faction i wanted ) so i had to replay the entire game over. then ...since it's release i have been only playing Red Dead Redemption, which i get lost in doing everything other than missions ( same as Fallout ) i have GoW yet to finish, Doom 4 which i have played maybe 1 hours worth yet to get back into, i have Dying Light untouched, No Man's Sky a few hours played, hitman, want to get resident evil 2 remake, ACIII when it releases plus plenty of other games i have DL'd from PS that i haven't touched.

Ubisoft definitely won't like where we are going.

@amichalski81: That is why I avoid those big RPGs like Fallout and Skyrim. Well I actually get in, take one look around to see what's going on and I'm outta there. I don't want to spend ages playing 1 game. On the other hand, if you have good time doing it then why not, so I understand that point of view as well. It's just something I personally dread. I'll leave them for when I'm 80 when dementia kicks in and I can get lost in there and see if the game helps me beat it, and if not then I'll be lost in it and won't care and count time anymore. Sounds like the way you're going you won't have gone through more than a dozen games in a decade. You need to do something about that, otherwise you'll be hopelessly buried in your backlog.

@ChrisAnetkaC: this sentence by you is 1000% accurate.

Sounds like the way you're going you won't have gone through more than a dozen games in a decade.

if i was actually able to finish Fallout 4 as i wanted then it seriously would have saved a year of my life. even though i played thru it on my 1st try i still got lost in my second play-through just searching the wasteland.

believe me i love playing these games and really don't mind getting lost for a calendar year in a game, i love gaming, i have been doing it since the Atari 2600 when i was 10 years old, so i have a good 35 years of game playing under my belt. at 45 i still love gaming

@amichalski81: I understand how you feel, some games are worth exploring and re-visiting over and over. I have experienced a few like that but I make a point never to finish them, always leaving a lot of their content untouched so I can return to them when the time is right - I'm patient that way. If I never finish them, that's ok. Some games are not meant to be finished, that's the way I look at it. I am older but I started later than you, and I ignored consoles until PS2. I love video games myself, but I never grew up with them, had other interests. I feel sorry for all those folks who never played a video game for a reason only known to them. They are wasting a part of their life.

Happy to hear about the changes, though, there doesn’t seem to be any tweaks to the many boring Desmond platforming puzzles. I hope they give out a PC upgrade option.

It has stealth mode, and if i remember it correctly was ridicules stealth, i guess they meant to fix the stealth mode with new remastered*, good thew they going to include all dlc with it.

Perhaps if they add more contents for battle ships, i will be pleased and played one more.

I don't know but I loved AC 3. Connor was a protagonist I could understand and sympathize with. The game may not be the best in the series or in its genre, but it was not a bad one in the way people criticize it. Sure, the gameplay wasn't very welcoming since there was a lot of tedious things you could do that distracted away from the story or the purpose of Connor's existence. But overall an enjoyable game. I finished it 100%. Looking forward to the remastered version.

this game is underrated hard. Most people got it early with the bugs but like the below comments hey fixed it via patches I got the game a year after release and never encountered the issues most people claimed at the time. I loved the era and characters and by far was the last good true assassins creed game I played. The sequels felt different like a new game not AC game. I urge ppl to give the remake a try if it’s bug free the gameplay and plot was good for its time. Dont hate the game from day 1 og release it improved via fixes as said and those that reviewed it bad never even beat the game or side quests

@Archangel2222: Yeah, it was near poor in my opinion when I played it originally, but in preparation for Assassin's Creed Origins in 2017, I decided to go back through my least favorite ones, and since three was back compat I went through it again. It turns out that I liked it a lot. Connor was a much more likable character. I initially thought he was kind of whiney, but not so much when going back through it. The Desmond story didn't really bother me anymore as we knew by then where the series had gone.

The game was buggy and the frame rate was terrible on release on the 360, but the frame rate thanks to the back compat wasn't bad and there weren't that many bugs. Finally, I really enjoyed the American Revolution atmospheric setting. I loved the music in the game but was disappointed that it didn't play as you explore, only during cutscenes and battle/chase sequences, but again it didn't bother me on the second go because the sound of the towns was good enough I don't think music was necessary; the atmosphere would have felt different.

Unfortunately, I don't know how much more of Assassin's Creed I want to play. Origins was fine, but doing 100 percent in the game was a repetitive task, and in trying out Odyssey, the game was so boring it's the first AC where I just quit after several hours and a few restarts and didn't feel like going forward. I borrowed it from my brother and with little hesitation let him have it back. As much as I liked earlier AC's, and even like my previously least favorite AC games like three and Unity, I don't think I have much desire to play them anymore. That means a remaster of three.

I don't know why they are even bothering to do this. This was by FAR the worst AC game ever made. Well, it might be tied with Unity (the only 2 I never finished). I just remember not liking this game at all. I also played it in 3D for a bit and felt like I would have vision problems afterwards if I kept playing it, lol. It was done pretty bad.

@Vodoo: I'll never understand what problems people had with this game. I played it a few years or so after it came out and liked everything about it. The only pointless part were those tunnels stretching throughout Boston, otherwise the game made improvements to the parkour mechanics and it finally moved on from Enzio. Also the combat was the best out of all the old AC games, simply because you could counter at any time. Unlike all the other games where you couldn't if you had just pushed the attack button, leaving you defenseless if an enemy attacks you right after. That was pretty much the only thing that could get you killed in the older games.

@Atzenkiller: For me, I think it was just that the game was boring. After several hours it felt like I had to force myself to play it and that's when I know that a game isn't fun anymore and not worth the time to continue. I rather move on to something I want to come back and play, rather than force myself through a game just for the sake of doing so.

I didn't even make it to the tunnel part you spoke about. The snow slowed things down and it felt like... Do something, then return to your hut that's far away. Over and over. Or your boat, that took a nice 5 minute stroll through the snow to get to from your house. I played the game right when it came out, so I don't remember everything about it anymore. Wasn't a memorable game to me.

This was the first game where they added the ability to go through the trees, iirc. But the character and environment, I felt, was lacking in fun.

@Vodoo: I dunno, like I said it felt like any other AC game to me. I don't remember ever getting bored during it, not more than I might in any other AC game at times. And I mentioned the tunnels because aside from once or so that you get sent there, I've never been in them again until I finished the game and then went through there with a map, just to see what there's actually to find down there. And unlocked some shortcuts that were useless.

Hey, Hey, Hey, didn't Wii U get an Assassins Creed 3 port as part of it's 'third party expansion'?

Haha, anyways, this seems cool. I'll probably snag it up for $20 bucks or something.

The primary thing about this scum of a game that I absolutely hated was the buggy as all heck controls. You go to run up a building and he runs up and jumps off the opposite direction.
It is infinitely infuriating when you're in that final chase sequence. Only to find yourself wall climbed into a corner of a burning ship.
That is the day that I stopped giving a heck about Assassin's Creed... That is the day I stopped finishing them.

@vilified_signals: I've only played the game some time after its released so maybe whatever issues you've experienced had been fixed by then, but quality wise it seemed no different to me than any other game in the series. Aside from Unity obviously, which might be the worst game of this gen technically.

But from what it sounds like you're still buying and playing those games, even though you hate them and never finish them? Why?

@vilified_signals: So you do enjoy playing garbage then. I've actually got more good games to play than I have time for right now, since every week there's a new PSN sale going on where you can get good games for 20 bucks or so. And games are extremely long nowadays. But enjoy your crappy games, I guess. Nothing will get me to touch 99.9% of the garbage that comes "free" with PS+. I'd have to be really broke for that, but then I wouldn't be wasting my money on PS+.

@Atzenkiller: Who says no to free stuff?

Your reply was arrogant and unappreciated.
Nor was it on topic. I play the free stuff because I like free stuff. Same goes for my free PS+ games.

You call everything that is free (or 99.9% of it) trash. So I can only assume you have more money than common sense... Or you live with your parents and get an allowance every week. The rest of us have bills to pay and mouths to feed.

So I would thank you to kindly step down and stop trying to crap all over something I enjoy. The free games in general. Not the Assassin's creed ones specifically.

Of which the 3rd installment in the number series was the beginning of the end. It's just taking forever to die off.
Remastering it won't save this title from being a travesty. Boom. Back on topic. Lets try to keep it that way, ok?

@vilified_signals: ACII and Brotherhood are definitely my favorites as well, but I still maintain that every single game in the series (that I've played) suffer from the same basic design flaws. Especially the damnable chase sequences.

Funny story about Brotherhood. When I first got it, I got a couple hours into it and had to start my game over, because the following happened...

1: I was running along a railing atop a cliff in one of the higher elevated areas of Rome, along the edge of the map (what was unlocked at that point). I attempted to hop over to another adjacent railing.

2: Instead, Ezio leapt off in the completely opposite direction...where there was nothing but a hundred-plus foot dead drop. Into an area of the map that had not yet been unlocked and was therefore "restricted".

3: Upon landing, I broke my back. As in, Ezio's model was literally folded in half by the impact.

4: Then, I hit a checkpoint.

5: Then I de-synced.

The whole thing was so funny that I couldn't really even be mad about it.

It was really quite a sight. I wish I could have recorded it.

I'd rather not be reminded of the game that completely killed the one thing that made AC so intriguing in the first place.
