Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Remake Is Reportedly Coming

Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A pirate's life for me.

Ubisoft is leaning more and more into the pirate's life, it appears. The company appears to be working on a remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

According to a report from Kotaku, the project is still in early development and will not be ready for a few years. The report also says that a team at Ubisoft Singapore will be heavily involved in ensuring the game is up to modern standards.

Besides that, not much is known about the upcoming remake, and it's unclear if Ubisoft will take inspiration from recent titles such as Assassin's Creed Valhalla to include more RPG elements. It's also worth mentioning that this isn't the only pirate game Ubisoft is making. The studio has been working on Skull and Bones since 2013, but since then, the game has been delayed multiple times and will now be released in the 2024 fiscal year. Despite the multiple delays, Ubisoft announced a closed beta for Skull and Bones that'll run from August 25-28.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag was released in 2013 on multiple platforms, including the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, as well as later on Switch and Google Stadia (RIP). As the name suggests, you play as a pirate turned assassin, and it is a favorite amongst the Assassin's Creed community.

Seems like the Original or AC2 could use the remake fairy more than Black Flag.

Anyone notice the 5th July 2023 patch that was released on Steam version for this title? There also appears to be no information on Steam about what this patch does.

Running the game now shows a hideous Windows title bar at the top of the screen. It doesn't seem to be a genuine window mode because you're unable to get the mouse to into the title bar area to access the minimise, maximise and close buttons. It looks like Ubisoft may have hired interns to write patches for some of their older titles and someone screwed up the screen mode for the game.

Pressing ALT+ENTER to go full screen doesn't work and there are no controls in the in-game Graphics Options to select any screen mode, windowed or otherwise.

Could this be the start of a series of decisions to patch the original game into a bug-ridden mess to 'entice' people to buy the Remake? If I had my tin-foil hat handy I would say so 😉

The original is already available on modern platforms and runs fine.

There is no need for a remake and nobody asked for one.

Stop making remakes and make something new.

Well, at least it's the best one.
The almost impressively boring Assassin's Creed III (2012) got a remaster in 2019,
and that one just confused me.
There was almost no improvement whatsoever on PC at least.
Black Flag is 10yo now.
If they actually bother to improve it I may actually go back to the series for a brief stint.
As it is, I gave up half-way through Syndicate.
And even Syndicateis like an orgasm of fireworks compared to Valhalla.

Maybe I’m wrong but this seems to indicate that they either have very little to no confidence in Skull and Bones or that they are going to abandon it completely. They know people want a good pirate game and the one they are currently working on (by all accounts I have seen at least) has been a disaster.

Well, Black Flag is the best game in the series, so I am more than down for a remake.

@stickemup: black flag was the only one of the series i have played and was enough to know to never play one again.

i enjoyed the game right up until i had to chase some guy and catch him before he got to a house i tried for 8 hours straight nope could never catch him so i got mad and used the disk to play frisbee with my friends dog.

@dragoonmike: Lol. Well, I can’t argue with you on the frustration of things like that in these games. I had a similar thing in Assassin’s Creed 3. I want to say it was towards the end, and I was chasing a guy, and you had to chase him just right. If you did too good a job, you would catch up to him before you were supposed to, and it would mess it up. If you held off a little, he would outrun you. Then, even if you were doing it just right, you would try to jump to climb this one part to get around a barrier, and your guy would miss the jump a lot of times, even though you did it right. It was infuriating. I damn near did what you did.

@stickemup:

Black Flag is the only one of the series i had the desire to finish.

Odyssey is close to that one, quality wise, and i'll finish it sooner or later.

They should do this and also, remake Unity.
FFS! How could you be francophone, be drowning in riches of French revolution history many of which are public domain...
And write a story as piss poor with characters as bland as ACU!?

How does that happen!?
