Assassin's Creed Creator's New Game Drops Episodic Model, Gets Teaser Video

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is set in Africa 10 million years ago.

While there's still a lot we don't know about it, we've now learned that the new project from Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Desilets is no longer episodic.

Desilets shared the news about Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey today at the Reboot Develop conference, GamesIndustry.biz reports. "It's a third-person adventure game set 10 million years ago," he explained. "Before it was episodic, and that changed the pace, but the content is the same. It's a bigger game, a bigger world. It was hour to hour; now it's open and I let the player tell their own stories. There are systems talking to each other, not me taking players by the hand. You'll create the story of your own ancestors, and maybe it will be different than what science claims."

Now Playing: ANCESTORS: The Humankind Odyssey - Teaser Tralier

Coinciding with this news, developer Panache Digital Games released a teaser trailer (above) for Ancestors. It opens with a Charles Darwin quote before showing brief glimpses of the game's setting of Africa 10 million years ago.

"Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third person action-adventure survival game," the accompanying description states. "The player will relive the early story of mankind with a documentary twist. Humanity is one idea away from evolution or extinction."

Desilets, who is best known for his work on Assassin's Creed at Ubisoft, parted ways with the company in 2010 to found a THQ studio which was subsequently purchased by Ubisoft. He again parted ways with Ubisoft on less-than-stellar terms, resulting in a lawsuit that was ultimately dropped. He founded Panache in 2014 before revealing Ancestors in 2015. As part of his talk today, he reaffirmed that another of his announced projects, 1666, is on hold.

Ancestors does not yet have a release date or confirmed platform, but we'll report back as Panache shares more details.

O look another uninspired, unoriginal, generic open world game. To survive you will need to collect 500 chests, climb 500 palm trees and collect 500 coconuts, scan every 100 animal species and clear 100 enemies bases. What a fun game.

Gotta love that evolution propaganda.

But eh, I suppose playing a monkey in a jungle seems kind of neat.

@borlng: Please elaborate on "evolution propaganda". Don't tell me you are one of the idiots who believe the flying spaghetti monster created all living things and that the earth is only 4,000 years old.

@happycamper1979: the earth was made in 7 billion years theeeeeeennnn about 50 billion years later we came.....and the heavens shuddered.....

wait the long version you wanted???

well about a few trillion gazillion years ago there was nothing then a huge bang and the galaxy was created then about a trillion or more years ago Earth was made but only 50 billion years ago has people lived on it....but the Klatu, the old ones seeded earth but their first crops died thanks to that giant angry space rock but they tried again and made humorous man.... or human cus they thought it'd be funny to split the sexes then watch as we fight a gender war....look at us we can't figure out if we wanna be man, woman or something in between....and it's hilarious.....

anyways evolution happened and there's some debate if it was a good idea.....on the other hand this comment is all a horrible joke??? we haven't ruled that out yet.....

you play a caveman assassin sent to murder the leader of a rival tribe from 3 caves down......but you have to walk 100 miles to get there, swing from vines, climb tall trees to get the lay of the land, jump into perfectly placed leaf piles, hide in tall grass, battle sabertooth tigers and woolly mammoths, and infiltrate the enemy cave, use feral vision to track your prey then kill and get out.....

$100 says I'm pretty damn close to what this'll end up being.....

Good. Hopefully "episodic" games die sooner rather than later. That sh*t turned me off from Hitman and it turns me off from FF VII Remake aswell. I want full games not sh*t sold into pieces

@altairdarius: first off this is the definition of a teaser, it showed off the game without actually telling you what it is. and second yes the graphics look terrible but that's because the game is not finished yet
