Asus Is Reducing Its Graphics Card Prices Across The Board

It's not clear when consumers will see lower graphics card prices, but they're on the way.

While new, high-end graphics cards have been hard to get for some time, that's been changing recently. Supply has slowly been increasing, and as high school economics teaches us, the more of a product there is, the less it costs for consumers. PC hardware manufacturer Asus is already shifting its pricing according to that rule reports PC Gamer, meaning RTX 30 Series cards may finally be affordable.

In a series of statements to PC Gamer, Asus confirmed that it "is reducing MSRP aggressively." Specifically, the company has "been dropping pricing across all SKUs" of graphics cards, meaning prices won't just be dropping for Nvidia cards. Anyone who wants to get an Asus AMD card should also find lower prices, although it's not clear when Asus' reduced MSRPs will actually have an effect on what consumers see on store shelves. Currently, an Asus KO Nvidia' GeForce RTX 3070 V2 OC is $900 on Amazon, which is inflated far past the price of an AIB model for the card. Nvidia lists Founders Edition RTX 3070 graphics cards at a $500 MSRP.

While there isn't a clear change in pricing just yet, Asus' confirmation that it is lowering the MSRPs for its graphics cards is a great sign. We could soon see other AIB graphics cards manufacturers–Zotac, EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, etc.--reduce their prices too.

The question of whether or not this increased stock will hold up remains. Companies have done everything they can to fight supply shortages, with Nvidia not only bringing back old GPUs but also releasing new variants of 20 Series cards. However, if the chip shortages that limited the production of numerous electronics are coming to an end, consumers may see more than just graphics cards on store shelves. A flush supply of gaming consoles, namely Sony's PlayStation 5, may follow right behind.

Um...are you sure? Everyone is saying the prices are dropping but I haven't seen them budge one bit.

@Barighm: I've seen some fluctuation, but my guess is the prices will stay higher than msrp until the backlog of demand from the general public is satisfied.

I wonder why Gamespot didn't mention this was because, coincided with the Trump-era trade tariffs expiring? Unusually non-click bait of them.

Or maybe they thought Asus loved us gamers that....... much.

@jenovaschilld: That would have required actual research.

I'm still using a GTX 1080, while having upgraded everything else. I just can't justify spending $2k+ on a frikken video card.
I guess I should hold out for 4000 series?

@Zynn: I want to wait for the 4000 series, but it will be the same situation as the 3000 series. Fighting with bots and scalpers for something near msrp prices. At this point, with the age of my rig, I would be happy finding anything at msrp.

@Zynn: Yeah you should, because they not that far away. Rumors have been going around saying probably around September to October. The prices are already coming down, i sported in more than a few occasions, GPU's already like Asus and other brands cards for as low as 1.550 for a 3080Ti GPU's. Normally with the inflated prices, those were going from anywhere from $2,100 to over $3,000

This Asus card was going for $2,200 and up to $3,000 and is now $1,800 at amazon. You can also buy it with Amazon monthly 5 months payments if you qualify for that. I was really tempted to buy this one, because i do qualify for the Amazon 5 months payments plan and i didn't have to pay for the whole thing all at once. Decided not to do it and i'm just holding on for the 4000 series cards.

Asus $1,799.99

Amazon.com: ASUS ROG Strix NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card (PCIe 4.0, 12GB GDDR6X, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4a, Axial-tech Fan Design, 2.9-Slot, Super Alloy Power II, GPU Tweak II) : Electronics

  • Gigabyte $1,649.99

GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Video Card GV-N308TAORUS M-12GD - Newegg.com

  • $1,539.99

MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Video Card RTX 3080 Ti Gaming X Trio 12G - Newegg.com

Finally, my RX 570 can barely keep up. Still, pretty surprised with what it can do with Deathloop.

Meanwhile, they were one of the first to significantly raise prices over other board partners, so this is just them returning to the market curve.

As in, nothing of value has been changed to the consumer, especially not when it's stupid to buy a higher end 3000 series card with Lovelace releasing later this year.

The 3000 series is two years old lmao. They should be cheap by default at this point.

@hardwenzen: The 4000 series leaks have also been a real eye opener. Between them and the next gen of CPUs we're seeing a massive jump in computing power in the next year or so. 3000 series looks like crap now.

We already need a new gen of consoles, heh.
