To date, role-playing gamers have had pretty slim pickings on the PlayStation Portable. The vast majority have been action RPGs like X-Men Legends: Apocalypse and the best-selling--but tepidly reviewed--Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade and Untold Legends: The Warrior's Code.

This week, though, Atari announced it is bringing a traditional turn-based RPG to the PSP--from the franchise that helped found the genre in the first place. As part of its pre-E3 buildup, the company revealed the existence of Dungeons & Dragons Tactics, a new game based on the version 3.5 of the D&D rulebook.

Developed by British studio Kuju Entertainment, Tactics will feature all the classic D&D classes, including (in alphabetical order), barbarian, bard, cleric, druid, fighter, monk, paladin, ranger, rogue, sorcerer, and wizard. Alignment will play a major factor in the game, as will psionics and prestige classes.

Set for release this holiday season, Dungeons & Dragons Tactics has not yet been rated. It has, however, been the subject of a recent GameSpot hands-on preview.
