AU Shippin' Out August 26-30: Rayman Legends

This week sees the long-awaited Rayman Legends hit Aussie shelves. The platform game is a direct sequel to the critically acclaimed Rayman Origins, which was released in 2011.

Rayman Legends was originally touted as a Wii U exclusive, but was later announced for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Vita. The game's original release date was pushed back following the announcement.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that Rayman Legends "was not going to sell enough," were it to remain exclusive to the Wii U, which is why the decision was made to bring the game out on multiple platforms. The delay did not sit well with the development team, who protested the news in a series of photos.

However, developer Ubisoft Montpellier was able to create an additional 30 levels of gameplay as a result of the changed release date. Wii U owners were also offered an exclusive Challenge Mode mini game for free on the Wii U eShop. The Challenge Mode was released in April this year and features an online leaderboard.

Additionally, Ubisoft revealed that customers who preorder the PC version on UPlay will be able to download Rayman Origins for free.

Final Fantasy fans will be able to join MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn this week. The game is a re-launch of 2010's Final Fantasy XIV Online, built using a new engine and featuring a new story.

The game also features revamped interface and gameplay compared to that of the original Final Fantasy XIV Online. Prior to release, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn underwent extensive beta testing, which concluded on August 19.
