August 2021 Free PS Plus Games Are Available To Claim Now

August's PlayStation Plus freebies include Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.

August 2021's PS Plus free games are available to claim now, including battle royale title Hunter's Arena: Legends for both PS5 and PS4. This marks a change from the recent trend of offering one PS5-only freebie. Hunter's Arena: Legends is joined by the wonderful family-friendly action-shooter Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville and Tennis World Tour 2. All three games are free until September 6.

Hunter's Arena: Legends is a swordplay and martial arts focused battle royale that drops 30 players on a map in ancient Asia. It features two different game modes, including free-for-all and trios. Hunter's Arena: Legends has 17 different playable characters with unique play styles.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is featured in our roundup of the best Xbox games for kids, but it's also one of the best PS4 multiplayer games for kids. The third-person spin-off shooter is essentially a sequel to Garden Warfare 2. It has cooperative and competitive game modes that can be played online or locally. Battle for Neighborville has a ton of different content to enjoy as well as solid mechanics and a stable of unique playable characters.

It seems like Gamespot never reviews one or two of the free games while there's always something about a Marvel movie on the front page. Is the Tennis game any good? I have to go to a different website to even find out.

@_Shuyin_: They won't give that out for a long while as it's one of the few exclusives released by Sony studios recently. Chances are that they will give out the original game first and it will be a while after that before they give us Miles Morales.

I hope I'm wrong on this, having said that.

This has really just been an awful year for PS Plus all the way around. Seems every month, the offerings for PS 4 are questionable, at best. I'm seriously starting to wonder if it's worth paying for anymore. Very lackluster offerings month after month.

@Barighm: I commented on this site when they did an article about this game leaking as a PS+ title. It had no players and shut down for a year. Remember the last time a BR game had to shut down for an extended period of time? That was The Culling. At least HA isn't coming back with a weird monetization plan. I mean sure they're giving away the version of the game for the console that is mostly owned by scalpers keeping them stored in a back room while charging for the version with the larger playerbase which they desperately need to stay alive but whatever.

@mcnichoj: It's not mostly owned by scalpers. More likely they're mostly owned by cryptocurrency miners as that recent bust with the thousands of Pros modded to mine suggested.

Wow, PS Plus has gone seriously downhill since I was last signed-up. Literally nothing even worth downloading this month (imho) and next month looks like more of the same. Only one I was half-interested in was Plague Tales, and that was only available to the 2 people who have a PS5.

Battlefield V, StarWars Squadrons were already offered on GamePass for months...

Virtual fighter didn't even get reviews by most websites because it was practically the same old game from 12 years ago..

DaysGone have been ran down to the ground....only free got people to downloaded.

A Plague Tale only served to remind people the sequel is coming to GamePass on Day 1

And OddWolrd was practically unplayable because of its bugs in the two months that lasted exclusively on PlayStation...

In short some of those games might not be garbage, but damn they didn't do anything for anyone.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is supposed to be an ok game, I just have zero interest in playing it. And the PS5 is creeping into the monthly lineup and nobody can get one through normal retail channels.
