The recent DC superhero showdown Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn't exactly short on darkness, intensity, and gritty fight sequences, but the upcoming extended version promises even more. The R-rated "Ultimate Edition" hits digital and home entertainment platforms soon, and includes 30 minutes of previously unseen footage. A new trailer has been released--check it out here, via Collider:

The Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition runs for a massive 182 minutes, and will include not only extended versions of some of its more intense sequences, but entirely new scenes and characters--in particular, Jena Malone's mysterious role, which was completely cut from the theatrical version.

In March, star Ben Affleck spoke about the decision to release an R-rated version of the movie. "I'm a parent of young kids, and I feel like I wouldn't want to have a Batman v Superman that I couldn't show to my younger kids," he told EW. "But on the same token, as an adult, I like to see movies that are R-rated. I think nowadays because we have so many means of distribution and ways that we can do different things, it's the creative solution to a creative challenge."

The Blu-ray and DVD release also include a variety of special features. These are:

  • Uniting the World’s Finest
  • Gods and Men: A Meeting of Giants
  • The Warrior, The Myth, The Wonder
  • Accelerating Design: The New Batmobile
  • Superman: Complexity & Truth
  • Batman: Austerity & Rage
  • Wonder Woman: Grace & Power
  • Batcave: Legacy of the Lair
  • The Might and the Power of a Punch
  • The Empire of Luthor
  • Save the Bats

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition will be available digitally from June 28, and hits physical formats on July 19.
