Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to Have R-Rated Blu-ray "Ultimate Edition"
DC blockbuster to receive stronger cut on disc.
The massive box office success of Deadpool has proved that a mainstream superhero movie can carry an R rating and still appeal to a wide audience. There have been reports that Wolverine 3 may also go for the more restrictive rating, and now it seems that Blu-ray version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will do the same.
A bulletin released by Filmratings.com lists some of the movies that have been recently rated by the MPAA. Top of the pile is the "Ultimate Edition" of Dawn of Justice, which states that it has been rated R for "sequences of violence." It also notes that "content is different from PG-13 Version." This is yet to be confirmed by distributors Warner, and there is currently no official release date for the home entertainment version of the film.
Last year, The Battle of the Five Armies, the third film in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, also received an extended R-rated Blu-ray release. This followed the huge success of the PG-13 version in cinemas.
Earlier this week, new posters for the upcoming DC movie were released, featuring three of the films's supporting cast. The images showcase Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, and Jeremy Irons as Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and Alfred respectively--check them out below:
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 24, 2016. It is directed by Zack Snyder and also stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne.
