Battlefield 1: DICE Is Banning More Cheaters Than Ever Before

Do not cheat.

Battlefield 1 developer DICE has published a blog post in which it addressed concerns that some in the player community have raised about cheating in the popular military FPS. Starting off, DICE said it is "working tirelessly" to make Battlefield 1 a "safe, secure environment for the players." The studio is intentionally holding back specific details on the "more intricate" elements of Battlefield 1's anti-cheat measures so as to not give cheaters the information they need to circumvent the anti-cheating measures.

In the past six months, DICE says it has "steadily ramped up" the way it is hunting down cheaters, both internally and with the team that runs the FairFight tools that the game uses. More cheaters "than ever before" have been removed from Battlefield 1 over the past half-year. Specifically, sanctions have been made against more than 8,500 accounts, and DICE said since then, instances of cheating have declined.

"While we have made significant gains, we still can do more," DICE said.

DICE also mentioned that updates are coming to the way that FairFight informs players about disciplinary actions. The studio disabled these messages "a few months ago" because they became a distraction, DICE said. These messages are returning, but they will be condensed into a message that informs players of all bans over the past 24 hours.

Also in the blog post, DICE talked about how some Battlefield 1 players spoke up recently on social media claiming they were being banned by FairFight when they had no reason to be. It's not the tools that are getting it wrong, DICE said, but rather it might be outside cheat software developers doing bad things.

"We are confident that our detection methods produce accurate results," DICE said. "Cheat developers may be attempting to manipulate players' minds about anti-cheat tools, and to leverage detection information from game developers."

"A common misconception regarding FairFight is that higher skilled players are more likely to get sanctioned due to their improved match stats," DICE added. "This is not correct; it is not possible to be banned simply for being skilled."

Finally, DICE anti-cheat producer Sean Merson said the studio is constantly coming up with new ways to get prevent cheating and ban those who are breaking the rules. "We will not stop until the community is happy with the results," Merson added.

In other news, Battlefield 1 publisher Electronic Arts recently announced that the game has now passed 25 million users.

@spectrexr1: It's easy to say that when you don't have any problem with addiction. I knew people who invested hundreds of dollars on free to play smartphone games, this is a disease man, lol What EA does (and many other) it's simple, they prey on the weak. Imagined gambling on a global scale using the internet as the facilitator, applied in mainstream products... That's what we have here. I don't remember BF1 to have this kind of practice tho, lootboxes in this game are just related to lame gun reskins. I criticized Overwatch, but at least their reskins can look different and cool enough. Now BF1... man, it's ugly. It shows how Blizzard knows how to present their shit (you rarely see people accusing them of gambling, even if they are scum just like everybody else).

What do you get from cheating. I did it once many years ago just to see what the thrill is and guess what, i kicked ass and won many matches but i didnt feel it, it was like yeah but it was easy and how would it be if i didnt cheat.

I prefer to lose more but have fun than to keep winning by cheating. Its stupid as ****

I only wish they could improve the overall "connection" (or whatever the technical name is). I never had a 60fps, smoothy experience playing this game, ever. I had some sparks (totally random and rare), so I know how the game feels when you play without rubberbanding... And it is glorious man, lol A shame how I can't have that 100% of the time, the major reason why I dropped this after a month playing, 50+ hours or so facing unfair competition, even for a casual like me.. everything has a limit, lol It sucks to play in slowmotion. And I was curious enough to watch some youtube footage, most of the videos features people playing smoothly. Such a damn shame, but I learned my lesson, EA never again.

@gleencross: When I connect it works fine for me. Buttery smooth 120fps goodness maxed out at 1080p (on a gtx 1070). . . just a shame it rarely lets me connect at all. Used to have no problems what so ever but since the end of last year I keep getting "server disconnected" message along with a message saying how my internet may be too slow (it's not), usually as I'm entering the lobby for a game. After trying every tip I could find in forums I gave up. Uninstalled it now.

@analgrin: I have a GTX 1060 and I indeed noticed some fps hiccups on higher setting (especially the ones related to effects). This game is bizarre, lol I can run single player all maxed out, but multiplayer is a nightmare. And I tried multiple setting, even with everything setted at "normal", the rubberbanding still occurred, etc So, I gave up after a time. The game remains fun even with all the rubberbanding, but a clean connection make this literally a different game.
