Eager to try out DICE's upcoming World War I shooter, Battlefield 1? You don't have much longer to wait.

DICE announced today that the military shooter's open beta will begin on August 31 across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. As announced previously, Battlefield Insiders get to play early--you have until August 21 to sign up to receive early access.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Battlefield 1 Beta Date and New Trailer Revealed

DICE hasn't officially confirmed how much sooner Insiders will get to play, but it's believed to be three days. The developer also said today that Insiders need to select their platform preference for the beta right away, or else they won't get a code to play early.

As for what's included in the Battlefield 1 beta, there will be one map--Sinai Desert--which is located in a place called El-Jifar. This map supports a wide range of gameplay, including boots-on-the-ground skirmishes and dogfights in the sky. This map's "Behemoth" vehicle is an armored train.

No Caption Provided

Two modes are playable in the Battlefield 1 beta and they are some of the franchise's most popular ones: Conquest (64 players) and Rush (24 players). There is no word on when the beta will end.

A new Battlefield 1 trailer has also been released, showing off what is presumably the Sinai Desert map. The impressive video features in-game footage, highlighting horse-based combat, aerial fights, and the destructive power of the train.

Be sure to stick through to the end, as there is a tease for what looks like Battlefield 1's campaign mode. A character says, "The legend of Lawrence of Arabia dies tonight." A woman is on the ground and her assailant is apparently about to kill her, but the shot ends with the woman killing the man.

Lead designer Daniel Berlin previously teased that Battlefield 1's single-player campaign may follow multiple different characters. It "will focus on different stories and different personalities across the world," he said in an interview.

One of the playable characters will be the Bedouin woman warrior from the announcement trailer and this new video released today.

Battlefield 1 comes out on October 21 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, but there are multiple ways to play it early.

looking forward to whatever mode has the trains on it. Wonder if it will be a hijack mode, sort of like Rush but based on a moving target you need to defend.

Only 18 comments. Not surprised. There was alot of hype after their initial trailer announcement, thinking that maybe we'd be seeing a different type of game, but after the gameplay footage, seeing all the machine guns and the quickplay and the like, it looked more like COD than even BF, or BF4 with WW1 skins is about it.

I was going to almost definitely pre order, but now i may not even buy the game entirely.

I'll play the Beta, and maybe it will change my mind, but at this point its waiting for a price drop to play the Campaign is about all.

@jagdedge124: If it plays like BF4 but set in WWI I will be a happy camper. I expect some changes, but there is a pedigree to uphold so hopefully not too many changes.

If it play like Battlefront...not so much. That game was borrrrrrinnnng.

And if it plays like CoD, it will be my last Battlefield game.

@raugutcon: If shooters are your thing, you're in for a treat. ;)

For me not so much. There's no game with a release date that I really want to play. :(

I'll play it, but mostly because I miss Battlefield Heroes and I want to see if this game plays similarly.

I'm actually feeling pretty pumped about this. Getting burned by BF3 and BF4 I got pretty cynical. But playing BF1 at E3 got my hyped again. If they can pull off a smooth launch and back it up with constant new content, I'll be happy!

@monkeypukefight:

Fair enough. by burned I mean being shown one thing, and having the final product (at launch) be a fraction of that kind of quality. Kudos to DICE for iterating enough both on the engine and on their network support.

Amazing looking game. Almost certainly the best visuals yet seen in a game. I can't wait for the beta to start.

We already know the game won't be as visually impressive as these beefed up "in game" footage trailers. It looks great and I'll be getting it..... but why keep faking it with that subtitle at each trailer?

@balucha: That's not accurate. These visuals are produced with in engine footage, all ultra. The only out of engine elements are the editing, and some blur and haze effects.

@balucha:

You're wrong about that. Obviously we won't get the cinematic camera angles during gameplay, but the quality of the assets is representative of what we actually get in the game. Some of the trailer likely contains cutscenes from the game.

The same was true of Star Wars Battlefront. People said there's no way it can look that good, but the final game did look that good, especially on PC.
