Battlefield 3 premium service launching June 4 - Report

Source says new content service to arrive during E3 next month will offer content drops with exclusive items for DICE's modern-day shooter.

Electronic Arts will release a premium service for Battlefield 3 on June 4 (the day of EA's E3 2012 media briefing), a "reliable source" has told Battlefieldo. According to the site, the service will be titled Battlefield Premium, and it will grant players a range of exclusive content.

"Battlefield Premium is coming!" rumor says.

The first piece of content to be given to Battlefield Premium members will include a knife and a black dog tag, as well as a set of soldier camo, weapon camo, and assignments. Future content was not revealed, and it was not mentioned if Battlefield Premium will incur a subscription fee.

If Battlefield Premium comes to fruition, it will follow Activision's Call of Duty: Elite, a free and paid service that gives members downloadable content and exclusives, among other things.

Additionally, EA has hinted at a Battlefield subscription service in the past. In March, EA Games executive vice president Patrick Soderlund said, "Like all other companies, we're looking at how we can maximize our investment in this, get the most out of our investment, and get more people playing this product. That may take us to different places, but we're not really talking about where that is yet."

On top of Battlefield Premium, the site is also reporting that DICE is preparing to launch a new Battlefield 3 expansion pack during March 2013. It will follow the End Game DLC, which was announced in March 2012 as the final add-on headed to the new shooter.

For people that love nationalism, patriotism, commercialism and more this is what you get. Greedy companies out to make more and more money of things that hardly matter and while doing so people starve, are homeless and the world is a crap hole. Gratz.

While I am venting. Why cant they get the balance right on multiplayer? First air attacks are pointless and shotguns are too good, then they adjust so that there is no good defense for air attacks, and shotguns are useless.

Also, another thing is, how are they going to get more people to play if they make more costs. I personally don't get the logic. All of my friends don't like paying a shit-load for games like this anyways. Monthly subscriptions are for game that are or like mmo's that are constantly updated. - non-stop for years and years

I feel that that comment made no sense at all. I think it is more likely they will lose players who dislike noobs being able to have better gear without working for it.

In addition, I feel I have already commented enough on EA's last mistake of the noob gun and upgrade pack. Dice should really be working on making it possible to for modders to mod Battlefield 3 rather than trying for more money. I would rather see Project Reality 2 for BF3 than stupid payments for upgrades, shit, expansions, and more shit. BF3 is awesome though it is getting a bad representation for EA trying to match it up with CoD.

I just purchased the ultimate upgrade pack. Need I say more? I already feel so ripped off by EA on this game, that it is going to be very hard to pry a few more dollars from me.

EA says: "we're looking at how we can maximize our investment in this, get the most out of our investment, and get more people playing this product." What they really mean is "get the people playing this product to pay more for it".

wait what . are trying to be like COD services . this is a freaking rip off . why can't they just add back the EA server's like before instead going into a 1000+ tickets lobbies .

EA invest your time fixing certain issues with the weapons on the game example like the m26 dart. EA keep digging your self more into a hole . you been mark the worst company ever anyway .

@xXDevilush420Xx I agree but these guys are cold hard business people. They already got their money. Not like anyone can return the game to the store on account of the m26 dart glitch. Now they want more money.

Great! another game I like/play asking for even more money, as if the expansions and their shortcut packs aren't enough income, go fix the thousands of bugs that are still remaining.

Further evidence that Battlefield 3 is more like CoD and less like their glorious past. DICE your are becoming more like EA lap dog everyday and its a sad sight. I am probably 1 of 20 people who actually really disliked BF3 but I'll stick by my guns and say that I was not impressed. I hope this "premium" service fixes game. Of course I'd probably have to pay for that to. Enjoy EA's leash DICE, even if it is made of gold.

I've read the some of the comments below and thought I'd comment as well.

As I understand it the way the COD Elite service works is to provide early access to the DLC, rankings, Leaderboards etc. Alot of people will buy the COD DLC anyway so it makes sense if you play alot of COD. Several friends ONLY play COD and nothing else.

I've played nearly all the Battlefield games and bought the DLC so IF a similar service happens then I'd consider getting it , BUT it depends on whats in the package.

If I don't like whats on offer I wont get it. That's my choice. If you don't want it then don't get it but stop bitching about it.

You better get used to these type of systems as this is the way game sales are going.

They will become a paid for service like MMO's.

If you ever bother to read the EULA agreement at the start of installing any recent game, you'll discover that you don't own the game itself. You only own a licence to use the software much like the licence on an OS. This licence could be considered a subscription to a service. So in a way your already in a subscription service so get used to it.

Looks it sad that games like Call of Duty or Battlefield, however enjoyable they are, steal the lime light from better games and create a business model that puts more emphasis on milking the consumer for more than he is worth.

let's be honest, nobody really cares about the above paragraph, we constantly vote with with our wallets and you can't blame EA for exploring a business opportunity

this is going back on everything they where talking about when they 1st talked about BF3, no sub fee's, free updates and maps etc etc.........so much for the limited edition , which means F all these days, back on Bad Company 2 people who had the limited edition was able to get all the dlc maps for Free. Now with BF3 limited you only got the 1st dlc for free, not really free for most as they paid extra for the limited edition, so really a slight discount on the dlc or in some cases costing more than the standard + 1st DLC together. EA/DICE you re letting me down....... 1st making all shotguns POINTLESS, +frag rounds and my USAS-12 is now POINTLESS, now this, grrrrrrrrrrr

Who cares? If people want to waste their money on something on this, just like they do on a $200 pair of jeans or new kicks, they can be my guest. I have no problems with EA doing this if it works to their advantage. Obviously, there are enough people out there with flowing wallets that make a subscription service like this worth offering. As long as it doesn't affect me, I could care less (although I do not like the general trend in gaming).

Yeah I was thinking the same. I could do a couple of bucks for some new stuff and for the expansion bc I do like the game. But not monthly fee. Thats a big no so I hope they're not gonna go for that
