Battlefield 4 to be shown off by EA in the next three months

EA will soon show off the next Battlefield, and says it is actively developing for next-gen consoles.

EA has teased that it will show off Battlefield 4 within "about 90 days" alongside signalling that it's actively developing its main franchises for the next generation of consoles.

No Caption Provided

During EA's Q3 financial call last night, EA game label president Frank Gibeau mentioned Battlefield 4 as a response to questions about how the publisher intends to avoid another instance of last year's disappointing Medal of Honor: Warfighter. "We have a Battlefield title coming next year," he said, "but we're not in a position right now to talk about our development plans and our SKU plan long term."

"That will come in about 90 days when we get to show you some Battlefield stuff," added Gibeau, hinting that Battlefield 4 could be unveiled around April.

EA's next financial year runs from April 2013 to March 2014, so it's most likely that Battlefield 4 would see a release in the same October timeframe that Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor previously occupied.

Battlefield 3 and the Frostbite 2.0 engine were publicly unveiled during the Game Developers Conference in March 2011.

Later in the earnings call, EA CEO John Riccitiello suggested that it was already working on next-gen installments for Battlefield and FIFA. "We're also investing Gen4 console technologies and content," he said. "We've signaled that we're working on the next editions of our two biggest franchises in Battlefield and FIFA."

"We look forward to discussing these programs and many others with you when we provide our fiscal 14 guidance in May," added Riccitello.

EA has already announced that owners of Medal of Honor: Warfighter will get early access to the Battlefield 4 beta.

Elsewhere in EA's earnings call was the news that the Medal of Honor franchise has been effectively retired and that Insomniac's upcoming co-op shooter Fuse has been delayed.

I still enjoy BF3 on PC (note, said PC, not consoles, because at least we knew what the main series games were like and how single player was NOT a thing with them). I'm really not keen on the whole BF4 thing coming out if I'm honest. I felt it was almost rude to still be waiting for the DLC just a few months ago while hearing EA were starting BF4 beta testing soon. It makes you think 'excuse me, why the hell are you planning the next game when you and us players aren't finished with 3 yet?" Needless to say, if 4 comes out this year, I won't be buying it. Maybe end of next year and I'll consider it. This is BF, not MW.

@GryphonICD yeah, you know that their main objective is making money (the most and as fast as possible) so although BF3 is fairly new with a expansion still to come they'll probably go ahead and release it anyway this year, if the money is there to make, they will keep going at it...

I just wanna see what it looks like, what the controls are, what the storyline is, where it takes place. This is probably gonna be a failure like MOH Warfighter was and how they screwed up certain parts of the game.

WHAT!!! BF3 SUCKED! Especially the single player part of it, it was just sick and now these ea retards are coming up with bf4!? They should be coming up with THE SIMS 4!

Honestly ea, just stick to your sims and racing games. Let INFINITY WARD AND SLEDGEHAMMER GAMES come up with MW4 after the awesome job they did on MW3 which is a trillion times better than fart field 3!

@ghostwarrior79 fanboy much. why cant you guys just play your game without having to start retarded flamebait wars. BF3 is more for people who like larger more immersive maps and MW3 is for the close quarters arcade style with kill streaks and stuff. each one has different appeal to different people. just enjoy what you have and let others enjoy what they have.

Why give priority to people who bought MoH, shouldnt the devs favor us who actually play the BF series? Stupid...

@Dark_Matter1337 Obviously because they knew the sales were bad so its a promotion to buy the game? It's sure making me want to buy the game now that its around £20 brand new, meaning i get to play bf4!!

**** you electronic assholes

i'ed rather they continue the bad company series (which left the last game on a cliffhanger)

still there is no point of buying an EA game right away, they probably gonna cut the game is a new season pass like premium only 80 bucks (probably)

Frostbite 2 engine is Superb but for next-generation consoles? This could be a hint that Frostbite 3 could be made also. But we gotta wait and see.

While I can concede that there were plenty of people that enjoyed Bf3 (and I can see why) I'm really hoping that they ditch trying to copy the CoD model (twitch shooting, tight corridors, a strong focus on deathmatch), and go back to what made the games so good to begin with (big, sprawling maps with tons of room to maneuver, an emphasis on teamplay that rewarded working together, objective based modes that were not only fun, but addicting). Bf3 just felt so homogenized in comparison to Bf2, and even Bc1-2, 1943, and vietnam.

@Alexk91 I do have to agree with you here, there is so much good about the BF series, but I felt like they were trying too hard to compete with CoD with the close quarters stuff.

Betting that BF4 will be released in March 2013, when there is usually a dearth of good FPS games, and when the idiotic COD fever has passed

Let me guess, you can buy packs to unlock guns/equipment/vehicles//ammos too(?!!) for both SP and MP.

Not to mention, there are buildt-in microtransactions and/or 11 day-1 DLCs.

And certainly, they are all optional.

True but everyone got to understand this is not DICE's doing, EA is the one who tells them to do it this way for more money. Thats EAs' way of making money then worrying about the Customers and the gamers more.

let me guess. It'll be every bit as horrible as BF3? Only this time, instead of costing 110 dollars, it'll be 200.

Battlefield 3 was a foundation. Because EA rushed the Release. DICE confirmed that the Game was only half way done. But EA thought it was great already, and rushed the release. Battlefield 3 is not horrible, no where close. Because it offers so much entertainment for Any kind of FPS Gamer. From Vehicles, to Sniping, to Close Quarters Etc. An again, DICE did not want to make the $50 Premium. EA wanted that to compete with Call of Duty.

But Battlefield 4 is gonna be for Next-Gen of course. So no one will know, how it will look till months from now.

Your opinion of BF3 being horrible just sucks man because there's alot of good within the game. they tried to do so much I was let down with certain things but they will take what worked from bf3 and improve on it, and btw even 1942 back in 2002 if you were to purchase all the expansions it would have been the same price, so outside of buying the kits the cost has not went up very much at all.

I'm glad they're making a BF4 only if they fix all of the problems with BF3 and make it more like BF2. Otherwise, it's pointless. I'd even take a game like Bad Company 2 over another Battlefield 3.

First on the list of features and stuff to never make it into a fps is the Macross VFs. Would be amazing though if they were put in.

A lot of companies release the games of some franchises with a 2 year window, but if they release a new battlefield game is a cash grab just because ....ehmmmm is EA, derp.

Battlefield 3 is amazing on PC; hopefully, the next-gen console versions will be just as awesome. Why not show off Battlefield 4 at Sony's expected PS4 revealing at the end of next month?
