Battlefield 6 Reveal Coming This Spring, Will Support More Players Than Ever

The next Battlefield game is coming in Holiday 2021.

As part of Electronic Arts' earnings report, the company shared some details on the next Battlefield game. Management said the game will offer "all-out military warfare" and support more players than ever before for the Battlefield series.

The current player cap for Battlefield is 32 v 32, so presumably this new Battlefield game will offer something more. In the past, player-count has sometimes varied depending on platform. On Xbox 360 and PS3, for instance, it was a fraction of what it was on the newer consoles and PC. However, by early in the Xbox One and PS4 generation, it had reached parity on all systems.

EA also said the new Battlefield game will offer more player agency, but the company did not elaborate on what that means. The last few Battlefield games have been historical games. Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V took place in World War 1 and World War 2, respectively. Before that, Battlefield 3, 4, and Hardline were all set in the modern day, with Hardline focused on police operations instead of the military.

What's more, this new game is tracking ahead of EA's own internal milestones. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said the new game is scheduled to reach "feature complete" status faster than any other Battlefield game in franchise history.

This new game, whatever is ends up being called, is scheduled to be revealed in Spring 2021 before releasing in Holiday 2021. EA CEO Andrew Wilson said this new Battlefield game will take advantage of the "full power" of the PS5 and Xbox Series X as it attempts to usher in a new era for the Battlefield series.

Here are EA's full comments on the new Battlefield game:

"We're looking forward to sharing a lot more about our FY22 plan in the months ahead, including our next Battlefield experience, which will mark a return to all-out military warfare. The game takes full advantage of the power of next-generation platforms to bring massive and immersive battles to life with more players than ever before. Featuring maps with unprecedented scale, the next vision of Battlefield takes all the destruction, player agency, and vehicle and weapon combat that the franchise is known for and elevates it to another level. The team is focused, and the game is ahead of our internal milestones. We will reveal the game in the spring and deliver the defining Battlefield experience for our players in the 2021 holiday season."

I think I’d like either another modern game, like 2-4, or a 2143. Bring back those Titans.

Not interested unless it's a return to form. While I love BF1, BFV was extremely underwhelming.

@tlpina:

Good luck with the pre-order. I sincerely mean that. I really got burned on my BF5 pre-order.

Once bitten, twice shy.

@Nineball2112: I've had no problems with BF5, aside from a couple of server join errors, everything worked fine from day 1.

I had a ton of trouble with BF1 thou. That game really irritated me.

I am just excited to see a true next gen game on PS5, maybe even a new engine.

Honestly, because I play maybe for 1 or 2 hours a day, unless the game is completely down, i still have a good time.

@deactivated-60368fd7c2c18: I just recently got back into BFV and I'm having a great time with it. I'm really excited to see what they deem a next gen experience

@tlpina: Then in your case, it sounds like it makes sense for you to pre-order. I was sorely disappointed with BF5, so I'll hold off on a pre-order. I'll more than likely get the next game at some point, because Battlefield overall as not let me down.

Yeah, after dropping support for BFV, DICE is going to have to earn my trust. No way in hell am I going to pre order it or even buy it in the first few months.

@just1mohr: Battlefield, yes... I agree. It doesn't let us down. It may have some bugs, but the experience is great.

COD, however, has been a real disappointment for me. I dropped 60 bucks on the new Modern Warfare and I immediately recognized the maps.

And I'm not talking about the rehashed maps from the original game, i'm talking about the supposedly new maps, which were immediately recognizable. It was Like I was paying for a fresh coat of paint.

Don't get me wrong, the game play is still tight and much less buggy than battlefield, but it didn't matter, I felt cheated. And the micro-transactions just went way overboard.

At that point, I decided that COD is a 19.99 bin game and I am not even sure it's worth it. One thing is for sure. Never again will I pay full price for it.

@tlpina: I hear ya, but when you have all your friends buying it the first day & getting ahead of you, that is not gonna cut it. I could wait for a sale, but my friends won't have it & I give in. You said it, when there are no bugs it is just about the most buttery smooth type of mechanics & gameplay you can possibly have on these hardcore shooters.
