Bethesda Gave Oblivion Remastered Keys To The Entire Skyblivion Remake Team

Bethesda gave the modders behind a Skyrim-based Oblivion remake access to Oblivion Remastered.

Although The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered overlaps with the fan-made remake mod Skyblivion, Bethesda still acknowledged the modders' efforts by giving them code for the new remaster.

Skyblivion is an upcoming project by the modding group TESRenewal. Its goal is to remake the 2006 RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion entirely within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's game engine. It's an impressive effort that has been in the works for several years. In February, TESRenewal suggested that it could be released this year. Shortly thereafter, rumors of an official Oblivion remaster and remake began to swirl.

As it became clear that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was real and launching soon, Skyblivion Project Lead Rebelzize said, "for the community it's a win-win as you get twice the amount of Oblivion this year," of the situation. Earlier today, Bethesda and Virtuos officially announced and released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Rather than issuing a cease and desist for Skyblivion, Bethesda acknowledged the team's work and provided the members of TESRenewal with free codes for the remaster.

Skyblivion is expected to be released sometime in 2025 and will be available on PC to owners of Skyrim: Special Edition, the original Oblivion, and its DLCs. The Elder Scrolls IV: Remastered is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you're playing Oblivion for the first time or revisiting this RPG for the first time in years, you should check out GameSpot's walkthrough for help in guiding you through the adventure.

This is awesome. I think it's absolutely crappy how almost any other game company would shut this down.

They should give it for free to those who already own the original game prior to remaster launch instead of giveaway it to random modders lol. However they didn't give Skyrim remaster for free to those who owned Skyrim already but now they are dogs of Microsoft so they are saved from being a stray dog yet they still operate like an homeless beggar so Bethesda once again being greedy BS company, no wonder they still selling horse armor DLC BS on a single-player game. :DDD

Well I wouldn't wanna wrestle with bugs and whatnot after downloading 150 GB anyway. I bet this remaster removed tons of significant content and it's actually a BS remaster so I rather play the original game with tons of mods anyway anyway. :DDDDD

@guitarwarrior66: Giving the remaster away to existing owners (aside from making no business sense) leaves out all the gamers who only bought the original PC release, because that was a physical only release no connected to Steam. There's no way for Bethesda to know those people own the original game.

If it was Nintendo, they would have given them a lawsuit.

That's a nice gesture. It's also nice to see a publisher playing well with a modding team.

Looking forward to playing both.

@mrbojangles25: For all the hate Bethesda gets about some of their decisions (esp Starfield) and their aging game engine, they've always been saints to the modding community. That earns a lot of good will in my book. Hope they never change their attitude and dedication to mod support.
