Big Bang Theory Prequel Confirmed, Here's Everything We Know

CBS has given the green light to a Big Bang Theory prequel, it seems. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS, which owns GameSpot, has confirmed a straight-to-series order for the show, which will be called Young Sheldon. This confirms reports from last year.

Big Little Lies actor Iain Armitage will play the young version of Sheldon Cooper, who is portrayed by Jim Parsons on the current show. Actress Zoe Perry will play young Sheldon's mother, Mary Cooper.

"The project will revolve around a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper as he lives with his family in East Texas and goes to high school," according to THR. "The concept was originally described as Malcolm in the Middle with a young Sheldon. Lance Barber, Raegan Revord, and Montana Jordan have also joined the cast."

According to THR, "Revord will play a young version of Sheldon's twin sister Missy; Barber will play George, Sheldon and Missy's father and Mary's husband; and Jordan will play George Jr., Sheldon's older brother."

Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre and showrunner Steve Molaro are behind Young Sheldon, though Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady is reportedly not involved. Iron Man director Jon Favreau will direct and produce the pilot, according to the report.

Another key detail is that Parsons will narrate the show as "Adult Sheldon."

There is no word yet on when the show will premiere or how many episodes the first season will contain.
