Big Sega News Teased For This Week In Famitsu
The summer is usually home to big game announcements, and some of them may be coming with or without E3.
The summer months are usually home to big video game announcements, and even without the presence of E3 this year we're still expecting plenty of them. Sega appears to be preparing something big that will debut in the Japanese magazine Famitsu, according to one of its writers.
Gematsu reports that Japanese technology journalist Zenji Nishikawa teased a "huge scoop" coming to the weekly magazine. He compared it to the scale of the PlayStation 5 exclusive that hit Wired last year, and later confirmed that it involves Sega. The announcement is said to be coming on June 4, just after the 60th anniversary of the company.
Other Japanese industry-watchers have since chimed in with some more details, mostly on what the announcement isn't. Analyst Daniel Ahmad cited a Chinese source who shot down rumors that the announcement involves Sega working with Microsoft to rebrand and launch Xbox Series X in Japan. Consultant Serkan Toto added that the tease never mentioned Microsoft, and pointed out that the journalist isn't known for being a fabulist.
A key opinion leader in China says they have seen the latest Famitsu issue and that they can confidently say that the news is not what has been rumored. (The rumor being that Microsoft would work with Sega to rebrand and launch Series X in Japan).

Is something else. https://t.co/6U9IVILsc2 pic.twitter.com/cDP3ugOug9
To further add on this: he never claimed the news has anything to do with Microsoft.

It should be noted that the Japanese journalist teasing the scoop last week said it will be on PS5-reveal level is not known to be a clown, troll, or show-off.

I am not his lawyer and not claiming the scoop will really be earth-shattering, but it could be interesting. https://t.co/j1AH32vejj
June 4 may shape up to be a big day for the games industry in general. Aside from Sega's announcement, Sony has announced a PS5 reveal event for the same day. That will include the first gameplay from the next-gen console.
