Billion Dollar PlayStation Season
Sony's PlayStation and associated-products sales are expected to top the US$1 billion mark this holiday season.
Sony Computer Entertainment America announced on Monday that sales for its PlayStation console and associated products will exceed US$1 billion this holiday season.
"The retail outlook has never been better as we continue to see a strong desire for PlayStation in the marketplace," commented Jack Tretton, Sony Computer Entertainment's vice president of sales.
"In November and December 1998, we sold four million PlayStation consoles," said Tretton. "We are on track in 1999 to keep up with the pace we established last year. The $99 price point, coupled with the sustained demand for the console and its games library, will result in strong sales for the PlayStation category overall."
A price drop to the yen equivalent of $99 is currently projected to occur before the end of this year.
