BioShock Creator's Next Game "Highly Creative and Innovative"

Take-Two CEO teases Ken Levine's next game.

While BioShock creator Ken Levine's new project remains largely a mystery, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has now teased that the game--whatever it turns out to be--will be "highly creative and innovative."

No Caption Provided

"I'm not going to steal Ken's thunder, but we're thrilled to be in business with Ken," Zelnick said today at the MKM Partners Investor Day conference in New York City. "What I can say is you would expect that Ken would work on something highly creative and innovative. I think that would be a reasonable expectation for whatever he does next."

When BioShock developer Irrational Games effectively closed its doors in 2014, Levine and a small team of others started work on a "smaller, more entrepreneurial" game for Take-Two. Levine has since said this game, which runs on Unreal Engine 4, will be about "fluid relationships."

It's a sci-fi game set in a brand new universe that isn't anything like a game from The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones developer Telltale Games. You can check out this post for everything else we know.

As for the BioShock series, it's now being developed by 2K Games in California. While no new entries in the franchise have been announced, Zelnick said previously that the series still has lots of room to grow commercially and creatively, a point he reiterated today.

"The franchise is in the hands of 2K," Zelnick said. "They'll make announcements in due time about any upcoming releases. But BioShock is unquestionably a permanent franchise for our company and one that we do believe in."

What would you like to see from Ken Levine and the BioShock series in the future? Let us know in the comments below.

Let's hope it's creative, since Bioshock wasn't.

@DeviantCode: ?? how many other underwater 1950's fps/rpg games where you have powers, sucking life from dead children whilst trying to keep off the nutty abominations that wander the underwater 1950's hotel have you played recently?

It was completely innovative?

your not a fan i guess?

@DeviantCode: Considering Bioshock's iconography is cemented into video game history that proves you wrong almost immediately.

@Bread_or_Decide: It really wasn't. It's a remake of System Shock 2. But you could say he was creative in that game, even though it was a sequel.

@jj2112: Rubbish Bioshock is nothing like a remake of System Shock 2 or 1 for that matter. They, like so many other games, share a few similarities but thats it. It is pretty farfetched but very typical of these forums to suggest Bioshock was not creative.

@jj2112: Remake. Reimagining. That doesn't take away from Bioshock being an excellent game that had a significant impact on the last generation. How does it having similarities to system shock 2 make it any less of a good game?

@jj2112: Remake of SS2? The game is NOTHING like a SS2, well, it does have 'powers' and it steals a huge plot twist from SS2, but ultimately it's a very inferior game.

@RogerioFM: Well, SS2 being very inferior to Bioshock is debatable. Bioshock is a good game but their plot elements are interchangeable (Atlas=Polito/Shodan, Ryan=Diego, Rapture=Von Braun, etc.). You can see the Atlas betrayal coming from miles away if you've played SS2. And the game has been dumbed down (I could finish it on Hard without dying once and SS2 is much harder). Of course, art direction and sound are much better but it's a more recent game.

@jj2112: Well, I have to admit my post wasn't clear, I meant BS was inferior to SS2 and although that too could be debatable. I love SS2 much more.

@RogerioFM: Yes, and SS2 was really scary too. The feeling of helplessness on Impossible was only matched by Thief on its hardest levels.

@Bread_or_Decide: Bioshock is among the best games of all time. Neckbeards have a way of brushing a broad stroke across games that they have not played or do not like.

Here's a tip folks. If you don't like something try to be objective about it. For instance, I don't like LoL. Can't stand it. Doesn't mean that it is not a terrific game, which it is. Just try to get a grasp on what makes a good game, and even if you aren't into it give it the credit it deserves.

Bread is correct 100%.

@AzureBonds76: Look at you hypocritically cry that others didn't present facts. You didn't name a single innovative/creative thing that Bioshock did because you can't (which is the fact that supports the initial statement). Your lack of facts and resorts to personal attacks make it obvious you don't have a leg to stand on. Juvenile reactions are juvenile.

You are 100% wrong.

@RogerioFM: Bioshock Infinite didn't last long in the hearts and minds of gamers but I loved it. Hell it pretty much allowed for any future game to automatically make sense. He gave them permission to maintain certain elements in the franchise. The guy, the girl, the lighthouse.

@Bread_or_Decide: I actually meant Bioshock 2, in which you are a Big Daddy, Infinite was a better game overall, for starters the gameplay didn't suck, but aesthetic of the first Bioshock was better.

This industry is obsessed with throwing around buzzwords like these without second thought. SHOW us how creative and innovative you are, don't just run your mouth and toot your own horn all the time.

How many times did I read devs talking about 'innovation' ? I lost count, release your game and we will judge how innovative it really is.
