PlayStation maker goes extreme, mobile developer posts profits, and THQ enlists aid.

Sony sponsors X Games 13
Sony today announced that it would once again be sponsoring ESPN's X Games. The console maker will be rolling up to X Games 13 in style with its PlayStation Experience truck, where players can recline in plush leather chairs and play games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable. The megapublisher will also be supplying the event with playable game kiosks that feature titles such as Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Folklore, MotorStorm, PaRappa the Rapper, and SingStar Pop. X Games 13 takes place August 2-5 at the Home Depot Center and Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Gameloft posts half-year growth
In spite of Ubisoft's abrupt devesting of shares earlier this month, mobile game developer Gameloft today reported strong revenues for its first two fiscal quarters, performing ahead of its anticipated full-year revenue growth. The French developer announced its year-over-year sales were up 50 percent to 30.5 million euros (approximately $40 million), and that income from its mobile game downloads rose 100 percent during the first six months of 2006. Gameloft attributed its better-than-expected results to investment in its production and sales capabilities, as well as an overall growth in the mobile gaming market.

Demiurge brought to the Frontlines
Demiurge Studios announced earlier this week that it would be providing ground support for THQ's Frontlines: Fuel of War. THQ has tapped the studio to provide fine-tuning to the game's Unreal Engine 3-powered frame rates and memory capabilities. Demiurge has provided similar support to Gearbox's Brothers in Arms series and Iron Lore's Titan Quest. Frontlines: Fuel of War is the first project to be developed by THQ's Kaos Studio, which was formed in 2006 by Battlefield 2 veterans from now-defunct Trauma Studios.

Sony has been doing this for a long time. No reason to stop now. Some of you say it's like MS sponsoring Comic-con, well It's kinda late to copy Sony in Ideas. assasin, all games on sony products are good...well almost all but you see my point. Once again Sony will dominate. Any questions?

android_M, It's no different than MS sponsoring Comic-Con and releasing exclusive vids on Xbox Live. They have to do it since both company's gaming divisions are still not making much, if any, profits. The only one that doesn't have to worry about that is Nintendo.

"Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Folklore, MotorStorm, PaRappa the Rapper, and SingStar Pop." None of those are all that 'extreme;' you might be able to get away with using the label to describe Motorstorm, but not those other ones. Not a very good choice of games to showcase; why not put out good things like Lair, Heavenly Sword, and whatnot. I'm pretty sure the audience for parappa the rappa will be pretty small at the xgames.

I see Sony isnt skimping on the PR deserts. But I guess they need all the positive feedback they can buy after the messes they have been making lately.

I still have the original Xtreme-game from playstation 1, its so much fun and I wish they could release for Playstation network as PS1 classics for PS3/PSP, I don't get, and they have the Xtreme-games 2 but not the first one to download.

Sony should show off the new Singstar for the PS3 rather than the Singstar for the PS2. It would create interest in their games. But still Ratchet and Clank are always good as well as MotorStorm. Folklore will need the added publicity because according to Gamespot it wasn't that popular at E3. But still good job Sony!

Good to hear about Gameloft. Though I'm not a XGames person, it sounds like Sony will be giving a lot of good entertainment during the event. Particularly, I'm sure some sort of Singstar stage will get a lot of karaoke entertainment.
