Black Myth: Wukong is out now for PC and PlayStation 5, and on Steam, the game is seeing extraordinary popularity right out of the gate. The game has exceeded 2.2 million concurrent players, surpassing the all-time peak concurrent records for titles like Dota 2 (1.2 million), Counter-Strike 2 (1.8 million), and more. It is Steam's most popular game today based on concurrent players.

On August 20, Black Myth: Wukong passed Palworld's all-time record (2.1 million concurrent players), but remains well short of the all-time record-holder, PUBG, which reached an astonishing 3.2 million concurrent players. Of note, titles like Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and PUBG are free, whereas Black Myth costs $60. The game is also the No. 1 title on Steam's top-selling games chart.

A significant portion of Black Myth: Wukong's playerbase comes from China, according to a report. Another development is that Palworld developer Pocketpair has congratulated Black Myth: Wukong on surpassing Palword's concurrent player figure on Steam.

Black Myth: Wukong, which was created by Chinese developer Game Science, has been controversial in some circles. Game Science's guidelines for content creators ask them to avoid discussing "feminist propaganda" and COVID. A report from IGN in 2023 documented the alleged sexist and misogynist commentary from the development team.

If you're just getting started with Black Myth, you can check out GameSpot's Black Myth: Wukong guide that runs through 20 things to know before you jump in. We also have a dedicated guides hub where you can get all the key info you need. GameSpot's Black Myth: Wukong review scored the game an 8/10.

Black Myth: Wukong is available now on PC and PS5 and is scheduled to come to Xbox Series X|S at a later date. Game Science delayed the Xbox version because it didn't meet the studio's quality standards.

Will play on PS5, once a few patches come through. Just in case it needs it.

Good for them. The studio has been unfairly targeted by activists, so it's only right that it sells well. Never bow to the mob and simply focus on your craft. That's how quality games are made.

88% of the players are China based. That's insane to me. That means 1.96 million people are Chinese Steam players. Wow. I had actually thought Steam wasn't in China for some reason. Especially with Ghost Net dictating what Chinese people actually see and play. Guess I know now. Still, my 2 cents for BMW. Meh. Combat is samey for far too long. Too many PC-centric issues right now that needs patched. No real sense of discovery in the game. You go to some extremely beautiful places to explore but the ONLY thing you find is more battles. No weapons. No armor. No nada. While I can appreciate their sense of wanting to stick to the main character in Journey to the West they left out a WHOLE LOT of other stuff in the story. Being able to absorb and use Boss specials in battles is cool but only for so long. You'll use the beginning buff your whole playthrough (freeze) because it's useful. Other than that, it's an amazingly beautiful game with some serious head scratching issues. If you're a monkey why can't we use the environment to the fullest? Like, it would have been AWESOME to see Monke whip around a tree and use a leg attack. Or jump up in a tree and come banging down for some OP damage. There's none of that. So many great uses just passed by by the developers. I mean, you're a Monke. You're super agile and fluid. That could have played into the game in spectacular fashion. It doesn't. You're constantly land locked and that sucks. Even Sekiro gives you a grappling hook. Still, it's amazing tech with Unreal 5 and it shows.
