Blizzard Still Debating Post-Launch Support for Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition

Diablo III console players might not get all future content updates.

Diablo III players on PC are used to getting regular updates that address bugs and balancing issues, as well as new content. The console version of the game hasn’t received the same treatment, and Blizzard is currently debating how it will support the Xbox One and PlayStation 4-bound Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition after launch.

“We're still working out all the details regarding if and how Ultimate Evil Edition will be supported post-launch,” a Blizzard community manager said on the game’s official forums. “(e.g. will we patch the game after it ships? if yes, should we only patch to fix bugs and address critical game issues, or should we patch in new content as well? at what frequency should we patch?), so we don’t have an answer for you right now.”

Blizzard did confirm that Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition will ship on all platforms with all updates included up to patch 2.0.5, and that there will “likely” be a “Day 1” patch to add in fixes and content from patch 2.0.6 as well. That would bring it up to date with the current PC version, but Blizzard is already testing patch 2.1.0, which adds leaderboards, more challenging rifts, new environments, and much more content.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition launches August 19 for PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The game contains the main Diablo III game and the Reaper of Souls expansion. As we learned at E3, the PS4 version of the game includes infected from The Last of Us, as well as a special Shadow of the Colossus transmog set.

I have it on PC, PS3 and 360. Will be getting it on XB1 and PS4 so no issues with me when it comes to which one gets the support. I love the game that's how.

I refused to by this on PC because I won't buy a non MMO game that requires a constant connection. The other day at a friends house he had it for console and I played it and enjoyed it. I thought about either buying it for ps3 or waiting until I get a ps4, but now with hearing about blizzard possibly not updating or patching console versions plus no news on if ps3 and 360 will even get reaper of souls why should I even bother at this point?

I totally agree with you about the BS DRM. I believe there are just too many companies shooting holes in the whole piracy issue that don't use DRM and make tons of money. It doesn't really matter as big companies like these are going to be the past with their draconian ways thanks to Kick-starter type sites and a lot of the big name people jumping ship and going Indie style game houses.

£9.99 for Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne, those games were £4.99 in Asda in 2005/6.

So if nothings been added, why is the price jacked up? You don't support those games just like you don't support Diablo 2, still ripping everyone off though.

Well, I've waited over a decade to play this game, and was finally going to breakdown and get it on PS4....guess I'll have to wait a while longer now. How the mighty have fallen. Maybe I'm just done with Blizzard forever.

Lack of post-launch support would be a deal breaker for me. I've held off on getting the Reaper of Souls expansion for PC/Mac, because I want to play local coop with my roommates.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> They make money off of game sales, console sales (unless they sell the consoles for less than the cost to make), and Xbox Live/Playstation Plus subscribers. Not charging for patches doesn't make it a charity.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> MS did in the past, not sure about Sony. I'm not sure right now either, I remember hearing about MS dropping the fees, but that might have been just for XBLA.

Besides having to pay, the process overall is much more difficult on consoles than on something like PC.

So they are not going to support a product they sell? Time to go cancel the preorder on PS4.

Blizzard is just f**king their gamers, be they console gamers or PC gamers. What Blizzard is trying to say here is "if you want to avoid DRM, you don't get future updates. You can't benefit from both all at once; you have to decide". Well, fair enough huh?

As I tried to state (in a pending comment)...

If something is faulty (as in, it doesn't stand up to the quality that the creator intended and expressed to provide to his/her clientele) - and it is because of the manufacturer - they should be required to stand by their product and fix it at their own expense. This stands true for every industry, and the video game industry should not be an exception.

Patches aren't always a good thing, usually they end up ruining the game so it is nice to have a version that never changes.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Not that often, because iirc MSFT and Sony charge a fee to publishers for patches. It's mostly bugs that get patched, and not gameplay tweaks like Blizzard has been doing to Diablo 3 on the PC/Mac side for awhile.

Why release a game for a system if you're not gonna support it? Oh, I know why. Because you like money. Don't be so ignorant!
