BlizzCon 2007 dated

Multidiscipline PC enthusiasts forced to choose as second annual Blizzard Entertainment fanfest schedule conflicts with QuakeCon.

For dedicated PC gamers, there was only one place to be for a company-centric fanfest blowout on the first weekend of August. Now, there are two.

Blizzard Entertainment today announced that its second BlizzCon celebration of the Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises will be held August 3-4 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Well-organized PC enthusiasts may already have plans that weekend, as id Software late last year announced that it would be holding its annual QuakeCon event August 2-5 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

Open to gamers age 4 and older, BlizzCon will feature panel discussions and signings with developers, tournaments, contests, and a silent auction. Organizers are also promising live orchestral performances and some as-yet unannounced activities. The price of admission to BlizzCon will be $100.

"Ooh, $100 is too much - wah!... Ooh, I have to pay for the airfare and the hotel - wah!" LOL - it's just a few hundred dollars, and even if nothing new is announced just seeing wtf BlizzCon is about is worth the price of admission. Plus extending the trip to a full week makes for a nice little LA / LV getaway for my wife and I.

A $100 2 days long convention or a free 4 days long convention? You decide, cause I'm staying home...

Blizzard = the slowest gaming company ever! every other mmo has at least two expansions out... whats next they are going to add a new auction house and 5 levels? in the upcoming expansion? These guys have more than enough of our money !...how about a few new classes and a graphics upgrade next time?

RoC1909: Clearly you know nothing of the costs of operating hardware on the scale that World of Warcraft requires, as well as managing it's staff payroll and development costs. What? You expected BlizzCon to be free just because World of Warcraft has a large subscription base? Sorry, that doesn't make any sense. Not to mention, 100$ is less than BlizzCon 2005's price of admission, which sold a lot of tickets, and was a very well-organized event. --- blackace, yes, you are wrong. Don't worry, though. You aren't alone. What so many of you guys seem to be doing wrong, actually, is trying to say that World of Warcraft's success somehow negates the immense cost in organizing and running a large convention. Yes, World of Warcraft is an incredibly successful game. Yes, Blizzard / Vivendi profits are way up because of it. But do you guys understand how business works? Just because their profits are high doesn't mean that Blizzard developers / employees have to wade through piles of cash when they want to get to their offices in the morning. BlizzCon costs a lot of money. There are a lot of things to organize, and if they follow suit from 2005's convention, they will be handing out a *lot* of merchandise. Hence, BlizzCon costs money to attend.

Undercova: how are they "copying" the name? Does that mean anime or comic conventions that refer to themselves as ComicCon or AnimeCon or whatever are suddenly copying "QuakeCon?" Does QC give out as much "free" swag as BlizzCon (1) did? Contests? You're trying to say that just because both are "conventions," they should both be free, despite the differences in content and items offered.

Id glady pay $100 to play or even watch someone play a demo of starcraft 2 and/ or diablo 3.... but how likely is that... about as likely as me paying 100 dollars to hear a live orchestra in a convention center. although maybe this would get me first in line on beta testing new blizzard games.. hmmm...

They copy the name and date from QuakeCon, and even ask 100$ to get in, while QC is free. If id can make it free(not saying they're small or anything, because they sure ain't) i would suggest that Blizzard could make it free too, also i don't know any other event that has 100$ tickets, that's alot of cash.

Why do they continue to call it BlizzCon? What other games have they made or worked on since the last? Blizzard really needs to stop these charades and just change their name to WoW and call their festive gathering WoWCon instead, since they have no intentions of getting off THAT gravy train...

Last I heard, they posted something on IGN about Starcraft 2. Something about an event in Korea where there'd be some kind of big announcement, and according to a translation of a Korean magazine, a demo should be released by the end of this year. I was looking for news on it here on gamespot, but no luck so far ... Link: << LINK REMOVED >>

Ok, I say we finally hear something about Starcraft 2... cause, even though I love Diablo and Warcraft, they've all had sequels already. Common Blizzard, Starcraft 2 would make you even more money! Hard to believe as it is...

The reason blizzard charges a hundred dollars is two fold. The first is that makes it so only the really dedicated fans will come to blizzcon. They want to have an enviornment of people who are above average in their playing and enjoyment of blizzard products. The second is because of the potential smaller attendence it allows them to pay the live orchestra, get all of the computers needed for contest and kick back some money to blizzard for all the cost they front for it.

People just don't get it, a company job is to make money. That is always the bottom line. I'm sure if they could charge 1,000 and get enough people they would. Everyone now thank Blizzard it's not a thousand dollar a ticket

I wouldn't go for $100. Its not a rock concert. Its a bunch of geeks with 3% being female all playing a videgoame. Sorry, if you can't realize how sad that is, then theres something wrong with you. For $100 I can do better things like buy 2 games or go out on 2 dates or party hard at a nightclub. Really, Blizzard used to be about the fans and now its all about the money. This is why you have so many of the fundamental people integral to games like The World of Warcraft and Diablo leaving in droves. Because Blizzard has changed for the worst. Now its sole concern in money. If this show were for the fans, it would be $30 at the door, not $100. The reason its $100 is because Blizzard KNOWS people will pay and so therefore takes advantage of the fact. They are milking you guys hard. Also, we all know we will be able to hear or watch any announcement made there either here at Gamespot or elsewhere on the web. You do not need to pay $100 to hear their announcements. Just open your web browser the day of Blizzcon. Thats it. Blizzard has become EA, a corporation run by executives where its sole focus is money. Plus World of Warcraft is a grind and it got stale months ago. Not even the expansion can help it. Its the same exact thing over and over and over again.

$100?!? Isn't this suppose to be for Blizzard fans? With that price they are actually pushing fans away. Seriously, this is suppose to be for the fans who have been shelling out $13 a month for the past 2-3yrs on WoW. Blizzard should be giving back to their fans, not emptying their pockets even more. Am I wrong here? Even if you are going to charge a price, $20 would have been sufficient. It's not like Blizzard can't afford to have this event for FREE as they are billionaires now just about. I won't be going to this. For one I'm having a family reunion in Aug and the price of flying to L.A. and paying $100 for this event is too much. When they finally decide to have this event for FREE and a bit closer to where I live, maybe I'll attend.

I think that Blizzard will have to release some info on a new Starcraft or Diablo game really soon, otherwise me and a lot of other people will loose faith in them. You can't go on with just Warcraft forever, Blizzard.

$100 admission means only the dedicated hardcore Blizznerds will go, plus it will keep it from being packed and make for a more enjoyable experience. Female Night Elf Cosplayers get in free if they participate in a dance-off. I'll pass on this one, unless they announce some exclusive in-game item like the Murloc pet from the last one, and even then it's only because I'm local to Blizz. Maybe Starcraft: Ghost will show up again.

It might help Id if QuakeCon offered playable builds of QuakeWars. But realistically I don't think the target audiences are the same. They will both be fine.

Why do they charge $100? It's not like they need the money when they have wow. If blizzard doens't announce a warcraft 4 or some other game on that blizzcon they suck. Also they only care about the money, not making good games which brings joy to people.
