Are you looking for a way to activate the Foundation elevator in Blue Prince? This particular room might just be one of the most important fixtures in the estate, especially because of its function. However, you still need to make it work. In any case, please be reminded that this article does contain minor spoilers.

How to activate the Foundation elevator in Blue Prince

The Foundation appears randomly as part of your draft pool in the manor. It might show up on Day 1, or several days later if you're not that lucky. Once it's active, you can use it to head down to the Underground section of the manor.

Important: What makes the Foundation unique is that its location does not reset. It will remain in the same spot in every run for your entire playthrough.

Where to place the Foundation?

As you can probably surmise, the placement of the Foundation in Blue Prince is probably the single most important decision that you'll make in the game.

• If it's too close to the Entrance Hall, it's very convenient since you can easily plan ahead, and you have a quick and easy access to the Underground. However, assuming you're too far to the north already, then you have a long walk ahead of you if you need to head back down.
• If it's too close to the Antechamber, then it should help you get the Basement Key faster. But that might also cause concern because you still need to "path' all the way to it. That means plopping down various rooms that act as connectors so you can actually make use of its function.

Where is the Foundation elevator control?

As for the Foundation elevator in Blue Prince, you'll want to look at the room's outline on the floor plan. There are three pathways and one that's blocked off--i.e. the left-hand side. The elevator control is behind the blocked off section. Here's what you need to do:

• Draft rooms going around the Foundation.
• When you're about to place a room adjacent to it, make sure that there's a doorway/pathway that borders the blocked-off section.
• Rooms with three or four connectors--i.e. Den, Hallway, Security, Passageway, and the like--are your best bets.
• Go to that room and check the connector that's next to the blocked-off part. You'll see a control lever that you can interact with.

Note: Interacting with the controls activates the Foundation elevator permanently.

What can you do in the Foundation Basement?

• Ride the elevator down to the Basement to find an Upgrade Disk on a crate.
• The door here will be locked early in your playthrough. However, once you've reached the Antechamber, you can pick up the Basement Key to open it.
• The Basement area has several carts that you can push, including a couple that you can raise, so you can traverse this section. Your goal is to interact with the green button in the far corner.
• There's also a part at the back that you can smash open, but you need to have something that can destroy walls.

Once you've completed this task, a hidden tunnel will open, revealing a way to the Underground proper. From here, you can check out a bunch of activities and secrets.
