2K Games and Gearbox Software today announced a partnership with the Academy of Art University for a project that will see students create an animated short set in the Borderlands universe.
Under the guidance of professors and with resources from 2K and Gearbox, students across all disciplines with have the chance to take part in the Borderlands Cooperative project. The film is expected to be finished by the end of 2013.
During the Academy of Art University's spring semester, teams of students will create short stories set inside the Borderlands universe. A panel of university officials, along with 2K and Gearbox judges, will choose one story, and the team behind it will have an opportunity to interview for an internship at Gearbox.
These interns will then begin full production of the film in the summer, before releasing the project sometime in the fall. According to 2K, this real-world experience will give students an inside look at the challenges of working with others and meeting deadlines.
