It's also the first time Jack Black, who voices the King Koopa, has landed on the list as a solo artist.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is so fire flower hot right now. So much so that even Bowser's ballad, Peaches, has landed in the Billboard Hot 100, marking a first for King Koopa voice actor Jack Black as a solo artist.
Billboard unveiled that Peaches has debuted at the No. 83 spot on the chart dated April 22. Music data company Luminate added that the song from The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been streamed 5.8 million times in the US from April 7-13. In addition, a music video featuring Black by Lyrical Lemonade on YouTube has over 15 million views, while the clip from the film has over 11 million views.
Black previously found himself on the Billboard Hot 100 as one-half of Tenacious D with the song The Peak of Destiny in 2006. That jam topped out at No. 78 on the chart.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic talked to GameSpot about creating the ballad. They revealed that Peaches went from an idea to a full song in days, with Black contributing a verse on top of other tweaks.
At the global box office, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is nearing $700 million. That makes it the highest-grossing video game film ever. The animated flick from Nintendo and Illumination is also the biggest box office hit of the year so far.
