Bravely Default artist joins Final Fantasy Tactics creator's upcoming game Unsung Story

Bravely Default has made waves around the GameSpot office for being a secretly terrific Final Fantasy game (a demo is available in the US now; the full game is already out in the EU), but the art is what brings the game to life.

If you feel the same, then you’ll be excited to hear that the character artist behind Bravely Default, Akihiko Yoshida, has just joined the Kickstarter for Unsung Story. Yoshida shared a few words about his role in an update from developer Playdek saying, “I am interested in the game concept of Unsung Story, and it looks very exciting.” He also worked on the art for Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, and FFXII.

Unsung Story is an RTS from Final Fantasy Tactics creator Yasumi Matsuno that’s scheduled to be released in 2015, provided the team hits their Kickstarter goal.

They're just using Matsuno's name. He's not going to be working full time on the game. The game is being developed by people who make mobile phone games, and they're making another mobile phone game.

People are going to be very disappointed in a year from now.

No, actually the opposite will happen!


When we originally announced this partnership with Yasumi Matsuno back in September the idea was to bring it out for iOS and Android devices, however we saw a lot of people asking us to bring this out for PC and Mac (as well as PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS).


In order to do this we turned to Kickstarter, however if this funding is met you aren't going to see an obvious phone game trying to make it's way into the PC/Mac realm. The game will be fully developed for agnostic platform play, meaning that the same game will be received on all platforms. Since we will be able to bring the game out to PC/Mac/Windows Tablets, we will be able to create a much deeper game then we would have if we were just keeping the game on iOS and Android, so in fact the iOS and Android users will be able to receive the benefits as well for this successful campaign since the main platform of the game will shift.


We uphold quality to the fullest and we will not allow the game to suffer due to multiple platforms. If we are successful, the players playing on their iOS device will have the same exact game the PC players have. Also by meeting this campaign goal we will be able to add more to the game such as a deeper story line, more content, and more creative individuals to make this a better game.


Since we had already planned on bringing it out to iOS and Android we aren't going to go back on that, it just means if we are successful you will see a richer game reach you. But the purpose of the Kickstarter campaign is to be able to develop the game for the platforms people requested.

@rufus_the_ninja @Thanatos2k They can say whatever they want. If they aren't making a mobile game then they wouldn't be releasing it on mobile platforms.


The limitations of the mobile platform will limit what they can do, and as such, we'll be getting a mobile quality game.

@Thanatos2k @rufus_the_ninja I doubt a game in the spirit on FF Tactics will need more than what a mobile platform has to offer. Mobile platforms have show that they can certainly deliver as of late.

So this isn't sexist, but American portrayal of women is?? You're a bunch of hypocrites, so if it's a classic FF RPG you don't care about how they portray their women.


I'm sure that half-naked woman laying there is very strong willed and is a magnificent character.

This game would be fully funded in no time if they didn´t chose tablets as their main development platform. If you resort to kickstarter, then your goals must be some 80% PC centric.

@monkor @jhonMalcovich They're building it for tablets. Before the Kickstarter they were making it for tablets, if the Kickstarter fails they're still making it for tablets.


It's a mobile game through and through.

@monkor @jhonMalcovich The simple fact they are developing for tablets is enough. I'm so sick of games for tablets and smart phones. Especially since Nintendo needs to focus solely on handhelds. The amount of iphone games that are absolute GARBAGE numbers too high to even want to count.

google search "Unsung Story kickstarter" they currently have like $444,894/600,000 that they need, donate a dollar if you want, FF tactics is one of my favorites, if you play it when you are older you understand the seriousness of the plot. Hopefully if these guys get going they can make an awesome game of a similar caliber.
