Call Of Duty 2020 Is Coming From Black Ops Creator Treyarch, Pro Player Teases
The new Call of Duty game might be a Cold War-era Black Ops title, according to reports.
The evidence continues to mount that 2020's new Call of Duty game will be developed, in part at least, by Black Ops studio Treyarch. Professional Call of Duty player Chance said on Reddit that he recently met with the studio to talk about the "competitive philosophy" for the new game.
Activision is known to consult with top professional players to help with the competitive scene for each new Call of Duty game--it's important because Call of Duty eSports is a huge deal.
Treyarch studio boss David Vonderhaar recently stoked the flames of a Call of Duty reveal with a cryptic message on Twitter. We might know more soon, as some people are suggesting the new Call of Duty game will be revealed during Sony's PS5 event on June 11.
Sony and Activision have been partners for many years now. Sony pays Activision to create special or timed-exclusive Call of Duty content for PlayStation as part of a co-marketing deal. It hasn't been confirmed yet if this deal is continuing for 2020's Call of Duty, however.
Leaks have implied that the next game in the series could be themed around the Cold War. Players have discovered Cold War-era spy planes and a nuke in Call of Duty: Warzone. Another report said this nuke will detonate and change the Warzone map to give it a Cold War overhaul to promote the new Black Ops game, but again, this is all hearsay for now.
This year marked the first time in a decade that Activision did not announce the year's new Call of Duty game in May, so fans are understandably eager to learn more about what's coming.
Whatever the case, Activision will continue to support the free-to-play battle royale game Warzone even when 2020's game is released. Intriguingly, reporter Jeff Grubb said on Twitter that the new Black Ops game this year will feature a new version of Blackout, the Call of Duty franchise's first-ever battle royale mode that was featured in Black Ops 4.
