Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies Goes Free Very Soon For A Limited Time
The Zombies mode will be free for everyone for a full week.
[UPDATE] Activision has now formally announced that Black Ops Cold War's Zombies mode will be free for everyone from January 14-21. This is notable because it's the first time Activision has ever made the Zombies mode of a mainline Call of Duty game free.
Players will get to try out the new Cranked mode, too, which is coming to BlackOps Cold War with the mid-season update on January 14.
"As per usual, you and your squad will be airlifted in with a loadout of your choice. However, once the first zombie hits the floor, the Cranked Timer starts ticking away," reads a line from the mode's description. "Your Operator will explode if they fail to kill another zombie before the timer hits zero, and the timer gets shorter and shorter as the game progresses! Keep an eye out for the Cranked Timer Power-up, which temporarily freezes the timer for all players."
PlayStation users, meanwhile, can try out the Onslaught Zombies mode--which is exclusive to Sony's system.

Original story follows below.
It appears that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Zombies mode will have a free week coming up soon. CharlieIntel spotted a store page on Xbox that states a "Free Access" trial for Zombies will run January 14-21.
If that is indeed the case, an official announcement may not be far off. We have contacted Activision in an attempt to get more details and will update this post with anything we hear back.
Presumably the Free Access trial for Zombies, if it is real, will also be available on other platforms beyond Xbox. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.
*checks calendar* Oh hey, 115 Day is next week!

See you soon, #Zombies fans.
January 14 is also the day that Black Ops Cold War's mid-season update goes live, so it might be the case that this Zombies promotion is in some way connected to that. The mid-season update adds a Cranked mode that resets the timer every time you kill a zombie. The Onslaught mode in Zombies, meanwhile, introduces the Raid map. PlayStation fans are getting some exclusive content, too, in the form of new Dark Aether intel.
GameSpot's Black Ops Cold War review praised the Zombies map, Die Maschine. Reviewer Kallie Plagge said it's a "strong map that's easy to learn and lets you focus on improvement."
