Call of Duty: Elite to feature video series
"Top Hollywood talent to create linear video content" for Activision's online service inspired by Modern Warfare 3; launch date for series unclear.
On Monday, Activision officially unveiled Call of Duty: Elite, a supplementary online service to Call of Duty games. Now, the London-based newspaper the Guardian reports that Elite will feature a new transmedia aspect--a video series based on the first-person shooter series.
"We have engaged some top Hollywood talent to create linear video content that will be exclusive to Elite members," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told the Guardian. "That content is inspired by Call of Duty."
It was unclear if the series would be live-action or animated, and Hirshberg declined to clarify. "We're not going to give much more detail until we have something to show," he said. "That'll be later in the year."
When it launches alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 8, Call of Duty: Elite will be an online service with both free and premium aspects, although Activision has declined to say which aspects of Elite's array of features will be gratis and which will cost. However, the company has outlined many of the service's features, including cross-game player profiles, social networking and group/clan formation, leaderboards, video sharing, competitions for in-game and real-live prizes, and training tools to improve players' performance. GameSpot's first look preview has more details on Call of Duty: Elite.
