Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Lets You Reload While Aiming Down Sights

Reload changes.

Infinity Ward has shared some new details about how reloading works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and it includes some notable changes.

Starting off, you'll be able to reload in ADS (aiming down sights). That sounds like a small change, but it's significant because previous Call of Duty games did not support this. According to animation director Mark Grigsby, this will keep players in the action better.

Now Playing: Why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Isn't Just A Reboot | E3 2019

"One other thing we added this year is the ADS [Aiming Down Sight] reload. In the past, if you're ADS, and you're shooting and you reload, the weapon would go off to the side, and you'd have to retrain to get to your target," Grigsby said in an interview for Activision. "This time if you reload, it stays on the target, so you can stay in the battle."

Also in the interview, Grigbsy spoke at a high level about why the reload animation is so important for Modern Warfare. "The reload to me is the pinnacle of the weapon; it makes you feel--after you've taken down five different dudes in a room--and you reload, you go, 'Sh*t yeah, you're done!'" Grigsby said.

In Modern Warfare, the reload animation you see will be dependent on how many bullets you've fired. If you're reloading an empty magazine, the animation will show the reload and the rack in full. However, for a "tactical reload," where there are still rounds left in the chamber, you'll see a completely different reload animation.

"In the past, we would never physically show that transition of one mag to another, but this time around, everything's physical, so if you have an extended mag, like a drum perhaps, or a long magazine, all of the movements within every reload are visceral, strong, aggressive, it gives another feeling of power and representing the Tier 1 operators that utilize these machines," Grigsby said.

Go to Activision's website to read the full interview, which touches on other subjects such as how the weapons look in the game and lots more.

Modern Warfare, which is a soft reboot of the 2007 game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, launches on October 25 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In another big change for the series, the game has no Season Pass.

Yeah, this was something they were saying around the release of the trailer. That's cool, but it's not really all that noteworthy. Something that I really appreciated about Titanfall 2 that I wish every first-person shooter did that has sprint is allow for us to have run on all the time so there'd be no need for clicking in left stick while also still being able to walk just depending on how far we push forward on the stick.

Yeah... I do hope this isn't possible with all guns because reloading a machine gun as well as many other type of guns seem impossible to me.

@heqteur: Depends on what you mean by machine gun.. LMG's yea pretty impossible, but M4, AR15's.AK47's pretty doable (not that the ladder should be classified as machine guns.

@Darko-TDR: It must 2019, because people like you think if something isn't liked, it's somehow offensive to that person.

News flash: your comment was stupid and so over-used that it shows a lack of imagination on your part. Either that or a lack of knowledge about CoD in general.

@GinsuVictim:

You are a moron if you think that every joke needs explanation or reason for that matter.

You must be a guy that doesn't like puns, which just shows how stupid and lacking in imagination you really are.

Oh and you were clearly the one offended, i'm just wondering did you stare at the mirror while you were writing this reply to me, 'cause that would explain a lot.

And what exactly does any kind of "cod knowledge" has to do with my comment, can you read or are you blind as well.

Also this is the first time i wrote a comment about "cod fish ai thing" and it's definitely not over used unlike you cod fanboys (scream children) and cod in it self.

@BabeNewelll: So, around 2007 then. More than a decade ago you lost interest. It's good that we all know that now and not last year, or the year before that, or the year before that or the year before that or the year before that or the year before that or... Yeah. Ha ha, just kidding. In all seriousness though, there are some good COD's and there are some that aren't. I, if not buy them myself, have played all of them (well, couldn't manage to finish WWII as it was too much of a bore). The first time was the last one which is Black Ops 4 as I'm not that into purely multiplayer focused games. Now that they're bringing back MW, rebooting it with an all-new campaign that sounds to be doing something different, I'm kind of excited.

@BabeNewelll: except that guitar hero pumped more than 1 game a year. In it's peak (between 2009-2010), Activision spammed 4 full GH games.... and also except the fact that guitar hero didn't create the yearly release at all. That honor would go to EA and sport games. So it's not really GH all over again.

I thought the game was supposed to do that the day it first started in eon days ago.

Wow, what a amazing feature, it's better then all the feedback and recommendation they received from veterans, absolutely brilliant concept.

Surprised the game doesn't have limbs exploding and just fire everywhere.

Claps hands in amazement.

Hasn't been a good COD since 3, I really have high hopes for this new one. Please, please be good.

Ghosts was promising but had pay for weapons in first map pack, terrible spawning, and poor maps. Advanced warfare, lacked tactical play. kill, die, kill, die, repeat with little chance for setups or teamwork (COD Halo). Black ops was moving to more like Overwatch this 8th gen, and aimbots on pc sucked.

My group of friends that used to meet up twice a week for COD, have just moved on. What drew us to the COD series in the first place was the slower more tactical gameplay, with strong realism, real world bullet and weapon damage. Team play and some of the greatest maps ever. Where you would setup pushers and defenders, campers, run and gun, and all had an area and role to play. COD were not like Unreal or Halo and that is what was so refreshing. And then after 3, Activision just kept making them too fast, to ridiculous, and too much like unreal or spec ops.

Another cod Modern Warfare would be so welcomed. And heck throw in a story mode for shits and giggles.

@jenovaschilld: I think cejay0813 was referring to CoD 3 (Which was a WW2 CoD), not CoD MW3 which it sounds like you were.

@cejay0813: I am well aware that it was.

I was pulling this statement "And then after 3, Activision just kept making them too fast, to ridiculous, and too much like unreal or spec ops." and your response as he only said 3 rather than MW3. Just was my assumption that you were thinking that he was meaning everything post CoD 3 applied to that statement (Despite his enthusiasm for another in the last sentence).

@GinsuVictim: Ah good for you, me and my group of friends felt some of the maps designs were really good, and the rest pretty mediocre. The load outs- dog, copter, and other crates were just okay. Also in choosing your perks, really only left you with a short range, or long range setups making rifles all around weak.

But again, many did like Ghosts like you did, a lot us didn't. Don't get me wrong it was still a really good game compared to anything in its genre out that year, but I felt no where near as good as MW games.
