Canadians Can't Buy The Switch 2 This Week Either

Delays in preorders for Nintendo's next console now includes America's neighbors to the north.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was supposed to be available for preorder this week, but current events surrounding tariffs caused Nintendo of America to announce an indefinite delay in preorders while it evaluates the situation. At first, that delay only included the US, but today Nintendo of Canada has announced that preorders in Canada will also be pushed back from their original April 9 date.

A statement from Nintendo of Canada was sent to multiple press and retailers confirming the move, stating that the delay was to "align with the timing of preorders to be determined in the US." The statement also confirms that the announced June 5 launch date for the console is "unchanged."

The preorder delays come after US president Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs to be implemented against nearly every other country in the world. Cambodia and Vietnam--two countries where Nintendo manufactures Switch consoles--were among the most-affected countries, with new tariffs set at 49% and 46% respectively.

Trump's tariff announcement is predicted to have a serious impact on the game industry as a whole, with the Entertainment Software Association releasing a statement warning of their "detrimental impact." Analysts predict that the Switch 2 will be particularly affected, with some saying the console will sell fewer units than originally predicted because of the new tariff policy.

Despite the delay in preorders, the Nintendo Switch 2 will still launch June 5 in North America. Nintendo has stated it will "provide updated information at a later date."

Why pre-order? Last time when Switch was launched I bought it Msrp on Amazon Canada lol It was well in stock everywhere in Canada. I doubt it will be out of stock during NS2 launch especially when Canada is the only 1st world country tariff-free zone in America now. Japan will direct all their America-bound stock to Canada. Thank you Trump for making Canada great again 🙂

Well that sucks. I’m assuming because a lot of U.S. buyers would just pre order from

Canadian websites tomorrow anyway.
