Capcom Asks Resident Evil Fans If They Want More Remakes In New Survey

After remaking Resident Evil 2 and 3, Capcom wants to know if you want a sequel to 7 already.

Capcom's reimagining of Resident Evil 3 has only been out a couple of days now, but the company already wants to know if fans want more remakes in its vein. A new survey aimed at the Asian market that ends May 31 includes two relevant questions:

No Caption Provided

While it's not necessarily clear which Resident Evil game Capcom would remake next, there are two likely candidates. 2000's Code: Veronica continues the story of sibling protagonists Claire and Chris Redfield, and is generally considered the true sequel to Resident Evil 2. Though 2005's Resident Evil 4 stars Leon, another character from RE2, it took the series in a completely different direction, away from the evil Umbrella Corporation.

Now Playing: Resident Evil 3 Video Review

Though both games have received HD re-releases over the years, the remakes of 2 and 3 draw heavy inspiration in their style and control schemes from RE4. By contrast, Code: Veronica is a half-step between the fixed camera angles and tank controls of the series' early entries towards its more modern formula, which makes it feel dated, even though it and RE4 were released in the same console generation. It's unclear whether or not a hypothetical Resident Evil 8 would follow more in the mold of the stripped-back first-person approach of Resident Evil 7 or hew toward the third-person action of the RE3 remake, which we weren't fully impressed with. In our review, critic Alessandro Fillari called it disappointing.

"As a remake, Resident Evil 3 not only falls short of honoring its source, but it also doesn't quite stick the landing as a standalone horror experience. Even without taking into account the original game, or its predecessor, RE3 struggles to keep up with its pace amid a clashing of elements from survival horror and standard action. While it has a strong start and gives its principal villain some great moments, this truncated retelling of the concluding game from the original Resident Evil trilogy doesn't do it proper justice."

I'll take both. Capcom has been doing original games justice with their kickass remakes and RE7 proved Capcom can take a great spin on the classic formula.

You got back to basics and thank god. I will take original monsters and zombies over ridiculous tentacle nonsense and now mold monsters (go figure). Now you just need to stop cutting story and sequences away. Might have wanted to start from one and work your way up in scope (kinda like how they did it back in the day). Yes yes, one had a remake sure. But it was over a decade ago and it did not have the much needed camera overhaul.

code: veronica remake - maybe?

resident evil 4 remake - no, the game still look decent but the controls needs to be updated to be like re6 and re2 remake controls.

re8 - no, didn't like re7 much (wish you could ads with iron sights) and the story kind confused me.

other - i rather have them remake or remastered dino crisis 1 and 2, play similar to resident evil 2 remake but have ability to free/hip fire by pressing the ZR/R2/RT without holding ZL/L2/LT where the camera facing at.

@nintendians: You mean RE5 controls. Game changes too much if you give it run and gun controls. RE5 is where it felt far more intuitive without changing it too much.

Leaks have suggested Capcom has no interest in revisiting Dino Crisis which is a real shame. Someone is trying to do the same thing the RE2 fan remake guys did, but that channel isn't nearly so popular.

@Barighm: yeah, i end up play re5 like i did with re4 on the gamecube 1st. so re5 for me feels like re4.

yeah, would have play similar to re2 remake but you move around shoot without hold the aim button like dino crisis 2 did (on some guns), but a bit faster pace since dinosaurs are not zombies.

NOPE!

how about we forget this talk about remakes?

I'd rather have the originals CV and Outbreak ported, like the Sourcenext versions of RE2 and RE3 to Steam and any digital store they want, because they are perfect as it is, and I'm sure they are still playable on any PC or Laptop, regardless of the requirements.

The only good Resident Evils that haven't yet been Remade are Zero, Code Veronica & Outbreak (s). The rest of the main "numbered" series from here on were garbage imo (until 7), so either remake one of the previously mentioned spin-offs, focus on RE8, or give Dino Crisis a visit.

@good_coop89: Survivor could be a good option for a remake if they flushed it out more. The original was pretty lacking, but they did have some good stuff in there including a file on how Tyrants were made.

I only wanted remakes of 2 and 3 with tank controls and prerendered backgrounds but didn't get that, but all the others they could remake sucked and could use it anyway. They might as well just remake 1 in this new style so the whole trilogy plays the same.

If my options are a first person RE8 or a 3rd person remake, I'll take the remake. But I'd rather have a 3rd person RE8.

@Tidus1012: re4 is a ps2 game lol. it could definitely stand to be remade. yes it's gorgeous i had it on the original gamecube but still, the game definitely could be remade, the cultists and that entire area was boring as hell, tbh every area after the first area was boring as hell, so they could definitely remake it, and add some real survival horror elements to it also.

@dynamotnt: That's probably what I'd want from an RE4 remake, expand the village, rework the castle entirely, drop Salazar and the island, move Saddler to the castle and put the island's laboratory areas under there.

RE4's first act is still maybe the best the series has ever been, but act 2 is weak and act 3 is mostly forgettable. If they really have to remake RE4, they should focus on the good parts of that game and rethink the rest.

@mogan: exactly, the first area was thick with atmosphere, especially when you renter in pitch black dark and the music changes and the zombies start changing too, then after that it was just wave after wave of generic shield and shotgun dudes

@dynamotnt: Regenerators weren't generic and are probably one of the finest examples of an RE monster in the history of the franchise: make your shots, don't waste too much ammo, stay calm. If you have found the right item, it's much easier. That's RE in a nutshell.

@Barighm: aye on professional they were damn fun but criminally underused, the mine cart ride was pretty good too, but thats like maybe an hr of gameplay in hr after hr after hr of game. and as a kid i remember playing re4 once and never going back from sheer boredem it was only on ps4 when i mastered professional but originally, after the village i was done on replays, i'd hear that prattle from the cultists and turn it off.

@mogan: It would because zombie games don't require problem solving. Outbreak was about solving puzzles and conserving resources to survive.

The only remake I really want to see is Dino Crisis. It would work much better with the current new school control scheme. After that, I would like to see RE5 with the original story as it was conceived.

I love this Capcom we've been getting since 2016. Listening to your fans is the way to succeed. I want Code Veronica and RE1 in a remake, but they better add a lot of new things as well because the original games are simply too short to be sold for $60.
