Capcom powers up revenues, profits

Japanese publisher reports a solid set of first-quarter financials, with operating income up 57 percent and net sales up 35 percent.

Phoenix Wright 4 for the DS, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 have all helped Osaka-based Capcom to overachieve against last year's first financial quarter, the company announced in its quarterly sales report.

The company's first fiscal quarter--which ended on June 30--saw net sales increase to 14.3 billion yen (approx $120 million), up 35 percent from the same period last year. Operating income increased to 2 billion yen ($17 million), up 57 percent, and net income was 1.1 billion yen ($8 million), up 40 percent.

The company amended its consolidated earnings forecast for the first six months of its financial 2007 after the good news. Net sales are now expected to be 30.4 billion yen ($256 million), up 3.6 percent on the original forecast; operating income is set for 2.4 billion yen ($20 million), up 60 percent; and net income is set for 1.4 billion yen ($11.8 million), up 80 percent.

However, due to the "continuous weak performance" of its arcade-business arm, the company did not revise its estimates for the full financial year.

Good News for Capcom. They always create great games for all the consoles, giving us stunning graphics and great gameplay styles. I would not have expected less from Capcom.

Capcom is still awesome. with only a port and a cheap-and-easy version for wii, the RE series rocks there. RE5 has done wonders, all those people who like to feel the game (reason #1to buy a wii) should read a bit about its legal troubles, wich are mainly , because it feels so bad to shoot a black zombie that looks so real. RE4 REUC LOST PLANET DEAD RISING what would be of those consoles without capcom? they rock, they really deserve that kind of success.

I'm glad to see Capcom make a profit. They deserve it. Though, I can't say I was peeing my pants when RE4 Wii Edition was released. The most recent Capcom title I've played was Lost Planet, and before that Dead Rising and Okami. I'd like to see more of those kind of games.

Resident Evil 4 for the Wii was pretty orgasmic. I agree with Eloy, they should definitely make a Wii version of RE5.

If they realized that their profits stand up on the Wii because of the released of Resident Evil4, Why not develop a version of Resident Evil 5?...why getting it exclusively for PS3 and XBOX360?

"Dead Rising was a semi-spin off from the glorious Resident Evil franchise which was totally welcomed by the gaming community/Capcom fans." -- Dreski83 ACTUALLY, Inafune-san told in an interview (forgot if it was 1up or ign) that Dead Rising was a spinoff of Shadow Of Rome

just a hunch... Dead Rising was a semi-spin off from the glorious Resident Evil franchise which was totally welcomed by the gaming community/Capcom fans. Then came along a game called Lost Planet which in my opinion felt JUST LIKE Dead Rising, except the obvious snow terrain and grappling hook  Seems like enough note taking has taken place. Capcom tried new ip's, they were accepted and greatly enjoyed. Online gameplay was attempted and as much as it was not perfect... it was good none the less. The whole question of "will there be a Dead Rising sequel" has come and gone in my eyes... its more about "when" 8)

The 4th game is Appollo Justice: Ace Attorney, it isn't called Phoenix Wright anymore since you don't play as him anymore. Just thought I'd point that out. Anyway, its great for Capcom that their sales are going up! ^_^

Ya Think most of that is from the 1.5+ Million units of Monster Hunter Freedom sold. What happens when the series is over? How about a new PSP Mega Man series.

I'll start respecting Capcom again when they start making some real Mega Man games, or at least some good games on Nintendo platforms. Nothing against RE4 as a game, but I don't see the port as much of an effort.

Wait a minute, according to the article, they're already on Phoenix Wright 4. I hope they can port these to the U.S. quickly then.

Maybe they need to take some cues from M.U.G.E.N battles and spruce of the street fighter franchise..ooops oh I forgot. Capcom gave free reign of Street fighter to Capcom USA. Oh well.

@ Valakos It listed a PSP game in the article, Monster Hunter Freedom 2, and that game sold well over 1 million copies, and soon releasing in the U.S., the PSP is not failing under Capcom.

Nice to see, especially since they made most of their profits on Nintendo platforms. Hopefully we'll be seeing a Phoenix Wright for the Wii, and such.

how intriuging - the company that supports nintendo increases profit ie Capapcom while the companies that have little to offer on the wii/ds ie EA, THQ and Take Two see profit decrease, they should stop making games for the failing psp/ps3 and see the light, the consumer obviously wants nintendo

Good, I just hope they make a series out of their newer titles like Dead Rising and Lost Planet. It's sad that Clover Studios abandoned Capcom, so no more Viewtiful Joe games or an Okami sequel. Though, I do hear they're still working on some Capcom projects, like Resident Evil: Umbrella Cronicles, and since the Seeds staff basically made the Resident Evil games (minus Outbreak 1&2), I imagine they're doing Resident Evil 5. Anyhow, I haven't heard anything about Seeds in a long while, so maybe they haven't really left Capcom.

They have done a great job on the 360 and have been rewarded with commercial success. Can't wait to see what else they come up with beyond RE5.
