Capcom Shows Off Onimusha

TOKYO - See some brand-new screens and movies of Onimusha direct from the show floor's center stage.

TOKYO - Capcom was the first third-party company to show its wares on the Upcoming Software portion of Sony's center-stage afternoon presentation at the PlayStation Festival 2000. And it's easy to see why - the company had a selection of hot titles that proved it has definitely hopped onto the PlayStation2 train. One of the games Capcom displayed was Onimusha.

Although not traditionally known as a leader in CG movie sequences, Capcom is quickly becoming one. In fact, Onimusha has movie sequences that rival most anything Square or Namco have done. Perfectly cinematic and frightfully realistic, these sequences immediately set the mood of this Japanese civil war-era adventure. And for the first time, Capcom gave us a peek at the actual gameplay, which looks very similar to its Resident Evil line, except you make use of a sword to fend off enemies. But different than in the RE series, it appears as though Onimusha features more in the way of adventure and sleuthing elements (like Metal Gear Solid).

We were able to capture some new video and screens from what was shown at the PlayStation Festival today. See for yourself how the game is coming along.
