As reported by Empire, Freeman will play government agent Everett Ross. In Marvel's comics, Ross is a character primarily associated with Black Panther, first appearing in 1998. Black Panther will be making his Marvel universe debut in Civil War, played by Chadwick Boseman.

Captain America: Civil War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner. It focuses on the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man following attempts to regulate superhero activity.

Despite the large number of characters in the movie, in a recent interview with Disney Twenty-Three magazine, Evans stressed that his character remained at the center. "Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve [Rogers, AKA Captain America] and his struggle," he said, via Yahoo Movies. "Especially his struggle with Tony Stark."

"It's exciting to see a guy who's as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness," he continued. "There are events and people in his life that test him--that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life."

Captain America: Civil War hits cinemas on May 5, 2016.
