Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night Gets Surprise Mobile Release
What is a port? A miserable little pile of code!
Konami has been keeping a miserable little pile of secrets. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is available now on iOS and Android, and it's packing in some extra features that make it a worthwhile version of the game.
Surprise-released this week for $3, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on mobile is an updated version of the game, complete with a new "continue" feature and controller support. The game also supports achievements, and has English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, and Spanish language options.
Konami called the mobile version a "direct port" of the PlayStation original, but it appears to be closer to the PSP and PS4 versions first seen in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. This version doesn't feature the same voice acting or dialogue as the original.
The sneaky launch of Symphony of the Night certainly makes sense, as the Castlevania Netflix animated series will have its third season released tomorrow. As with Symphony of the Night, the series features Alucard prominently, though it has focused on the events of Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse thus far. Michael Rougeau found it to be the best season yet in GameSpot's Castlevania Season 3 review.
For even more Castlevania, the most recent game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is available for free through Xbox Games With Gold. It takes place in a different universe than Symphony of the Night, with some of its characters being combined into single people.
