CGI Legend of Zelda movie pitch revealed

2007 pitch from Astro Boy company Imagi Animation Studios features Disney-style depictions of Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf.

Nintendo has yet to bring its iconic Legend of Zelda franchise to the big screen, but that's not to say studios have not pitched the company on the idea.

Superannuation (via Kotaku) recently discovered a 2007 CGI Legend of Zelda movie pitch from Imagi Animation Studios.

The short clip features Disney-style depictions of heroes Link and Zelda, as well as the nefarious Ganondorf and his minions. Check out the full clip below.

Imagi Animation Studios was also behind the 2007 CGI movie TMNT and 2009's Astro Boy. The company's American office, creator of the Zelda clip, has since closed.

The next Legend of Zelda game is this October's The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for the Wii U. In addition, an all-new Zelda game for the Wii U, said to "rethink conventions" of the series, is in development.

It's honestly the only way a Zelda movie could work. The costumes especially are just too ridiculous to take seriously if it ever delved into live action.

The teaser/trailer has more of an animated TV series feel to it. The animation/the look reminds me a little bit of Star Wars: Clone Wars.

CGI movies are the best kind of movie adaptation for games. Both resident evil degeneration and damnation were awesome!! especially damnation, really worth a watch if you haven't seen it, damnation alone beats all 5 resident evil movies.

i hope the new zelda will have the same style as twilight princess, skyward sword wasn't very "visually appealing" while tp was. if they base the next zelda game on the art style of tp it will look amazing

@mike9876543210 Twilight Princess looked muddy and ugly as sin. Everything was brown in that game, like there was a fine layer of dirt on the screen. If they bring far more vibrant colors and an interesting world to a game as detailed as TP, then it might look good.

Yes I have and I must say from Link to the past to Ocarina of time I found the game to be droll and highly unimagitive were it counts the most the repeated theme rescue the same stupid broad or rescue a magical kingdom or artifact so many times does not help this game especially using same protagonist endlessly.

It should be the opposite if history has taught us anything. Nintendo has yet to (dis)honor Zelda with the chance of becoming a movie. You know, because the Mario movie turned out great.

I don't think Nintendo will ever want or allow a Legend of Zelda film because of how shitty the Super Mario Brothers movie was. It is highly unlikely that they want history to repeat itself on that front.

@J4m3sR4n0r72 @Hurvl Yeah, but that was early 90's and live-action. Movies have developed a long way from there and a CGI movie sounds much better. Not saying it would *be* better or even good, but I wouldn't rule it out that Nintendo would make an animated Zelda movie.

It looks kind of similar to the Clone Wars TV show animation. All these people crying about it don't know what this group would've done with it. It might've had this kind of animation style but perhaps the story would've turned out to be really good. Besides, this is frickin previs type stuff, the final flick probably would've looked much different from this early work.

And I really don't know why these "fans" think Link can't speak ever. They could make him more like "The Man With No Name" type where he speaks little but it's always important when he does speak. And who cares what he says as long as the dialogue is well written and well acted?

@Jedilink109 Link talking is just a bad idea. Link as a character is more of an avatar for the player, and everyone has their own unique idea of what Link is like. To be honest, there is not a voice in the world that could capture Link in my head. Hearing him speak would be jarring, and something I could not get past.

I hope this has absolutely nothing to do with a new Wii U Zelda game, a new one not the Wind Waker HD that one they can do anything they want with it. I want to see the link I saw in the tech demo not this link in the New Wii U Zelda coming sometime in the Wii U life span.
