Eidos today announced that Charlton Athletic's Mervyn Day is acting as a consultant during the development of Championship Manager 5--the first game in the popular soccer management series to be developed by Beautiful Game Studios rather than by Sports Interactive. Day, who played for a number of English soccer clubs before pursuing a career in management, has been Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley's number two since 1998 and will primarily be responsible for devising training routines and drills for players in the game.

"My main role is advising the boys on what is realistic and true to life football-wise. I'm devising a realistic training program that takes in the needs of the whole club," said Day. "Hopefully my involvement can contribute to the continued success of the Championship Manager series and further improve the realism of the game."

"Mervyn is one of the most respected and qualified coaches in world football," added John Davis, European marketing director at Eidos. "We are thrilled to have him on our team and look forward to his insight and knowledge making Championship Manager 5 the best yet."

Championship Manager 5 is currently scheduled for release in Europe toward the end of this year. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
