Check out New Elder Scrolls Online Features and Areas Ahead of Relaunch

As Elder Scrolls Online transitions to a one-time payment system, several new features get folded in.

Starting this week, The Elder Scrolls Online will be rebranded as Tamriel Unlimited. To accompany the update, Zenimax Online Studios released a launch trailer during their weekly ESO Live! Stream last week (starts at 1:33:45). The trailer runs through many of the features and content packs added since the Elder Scrolls Online launched in May 2014.

One of the biggest changes is the long-awaited Justice System. First announced at QuakeCon last year, the feature went live earlier this month and lets players steal from and murder basically anyone. That might sound a little sociopathic, but it's been one of the Elder Scroll Series staples features for quite some time. It could also be the first step to adding in the still-missing Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests, which will almost certainly focus on stealing and assassination, respectively.

More than the new content, the Tamriel Unlimited update will mark Elder Scrolls Online's official transition to a buy-to-play model. Users can purchase the game and then play as much as they like, ditching the $15 per month subscription that ESO required at launch. Current subscribers can continue their monthly payment, and will be upgraded to ESO Plus accounts which grants a number of in-game bonuses including cosmetic and convenience items.

Tamriel Unlimited will launch March 17, but a price for the relaunched game hasn't been announced yet. We've reached out to Bethesda for comment and will update the story as we have more details.

I just got an email asking me to come and rejoin for free. I had the digital imperial edition as well. This would lead me to believe it is a free update.

<< LINK REMOVED >> No. You will not have to buy this, any one that owns the game (any version) will get the updated TU edition which is not a different edition but an update will be available on release date to every one straight away, everyone will get this that owned the game, you will not have to pay anything for the new content, or pay sub either.

So after this comes out and does mediocre will they finally start focusing on Fallout 4 and the next single-player Elder Scrolls? Ya know, the things we all actually want.

<< LINK REMOVED >> This game wasn't made by Bethseda, it was made by Zenimax Online (a studoi formed to make this game).

Bethseda has already been hard at work on whatever game they are making for years now.

Most of the rumors point to Fallout 4.

<< LINK REMOVED >> That's like wondering if we'll get a new KotOR if Battlefield Hardline flops. Not everything that has Bethesda's name on it somewhere is made by the same group of people.

Also, I have a strong suspicion that we'll get our Fallout announcement at E3.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I didn't mean to insinuate that the same people who develop ESO are the same people who develop Fallout or TES. What I meant was that Bethesda as a whole would focus on those games, like marketing and info dumps.

Right now they are trying to drum up support for ESO, which means they will not make any new announcements until it comes out and has a chance to sell. Otherwise they would be under cutting their own game.

They obviously spent a lot of money making and promoting ESO and I don't think they've seen the returns they want on it, so until they get as much back on the IP as possible they won't risk shifting attention to something else like a new Fallout game.

That is why I want this thing to come out so they focus on something else.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> That doesn't mean Fallout will come out any later than it would have otherwise. Announcing a game and getting the marketing train rolling isn't required for a game to be in development.

And Bethesda has their own press conference at E3 this year; they sure as **** aren't going to talk about ESO the whole time.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Not the same developers, so I hope they are not working on Fallout 4... seeing as they are different developers, if anything this team may do a Fallout Online. But I am sure this team is focused solely on ESO and nothing else.

Bethesda on the other hand have been working on other games for a while now, it is not confirmed that it is Fallout 4 but you can be certain that it is in development.

For me, the aldmeri dominion would be the last choice to play for this game

After a quick research, those high elf...they re realy are terrible races

Im getting used to hate orcs in lord the rings but in elder scroll they re a pretty nice race

High Elf is the opposite they really look low on humans and other races

The way they think that humans..the legitimate ruler of tamriel arent worthy enough to rule is very disrespectfull

i really enjoy my dragon riding moment in thalmor embassy doing some little party just to mess with those guys

To be honest leveling 1-50 on this game was the most fun leveling experience of any MMO I've played (and I've played them all). Cyrodil could be also be extremely fun and feel super epic with huge battles.

However once I got to veteran ranks, the grind to get to VR10 was just too much, it felt like all of sudden progression became ULTRA slow and it just turned me off the game.

I'll definitely check it out once it goes F2P.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Therein lies the problem, 16. In what way did being online enhance the leveling experience in ESO? When I played, the online aspects of the game felt tacked on and forced. The only exception to that was the PvP which I actually found really enjoyable, assuming you weren't on one of the servers where the faction populations were so out of whack that one alliance controlled 90% of the map 95% of the time. ESO was a decent game overall, but it made a lot of the same mistakes TOR made: NPCs were trying so freaking hard to convince me that I was the "Chosen One", but after the mayor thanked me for saving his town, I could turn around and see the conga line of other "Chosen One"s waiting to turn in the same quest, making the NPC's praise feel disingenuous. There is nothing wrong with a story-focused MMO, but a character focused MMO just doesn't work if the character you're focusing on is the player.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> As much as they did make mistakes I do feel the leveling process and story were top class. I actually prefer the ESO plot to Skyrim honestly, VO's were great as well. However I will agree that none of that was improved by the online aspect.

My server was pretty decent on Cyrodil it used to shift fairly evenly between all 3 factions with AD maybe getting the rougher end of the stick.

For me it just fell apart at 50, those VR levels were just so slow it really made everything feel stagnant. Plus I didn't like the idea of playing through the other zones on my DC character it just didn't seem in keeping with the story at all. I would rather they stopped leveling at 50 and if you want to play the other zones you make an alt, would have made much more sense.

From a few reports the game will still have the option of paying a subscription for a premium service, which makes me wonder whats gonna be cut from the free service.

Il wait for the next offline ES game.

ES is a game I enjoy offline since I have a big world without people getting in the way.
Also, an ES in which I can't use community mods? no thanks.

Sub free and one time payment is the way to go. Free 2 Play would mess up this game. Every game who goes to complete F2P after some time becomes trash with crappy economics overpriced stuff, lots of bots and so on. One time payments is the best. Now I can get this game.

And just b/c this game have cash shop for cosmetics and stuff that doesn't mean its P2W. Guild Wars 2 have a gem store too, where you can buy skins and exp boosts. And you know what? Those exp boosters does nothing. You will get 50% more exp for 1h. That will really make you overpowered compared to others. Its not like asian F2P MMO games, where you can buy super awesome diamond sword and dragon armor of blazing awesomeness and go to PVP to kill everyone.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I couldn't agree more. My issue with payment models is that F2P just doesn't work very well with MMO's. The best F2P games (where the players aren't simply tolerating or tearing their hair out) are the one's that are based on moderately priced cosmetic options that coax players into spending more and more for entertaining visual changes. This idea just doesn't gel well with the value placed on 'gear' and gear design in MMO's. IMO it works best with fighting games, shooters, and moba's where you can enjoy camo and costume changes.

MMO's should stick to B2P or sub. But if they go sub, they have to fight against the very high bar WoW has set in terms of content which is one of the reasons ESO has done so poorly.

I'm with you, though. I'm considering giving this a try now.
