Check Out These Steam Controller Game Skins and Accessories

Portal- and Counter-Strike-themed Steam Controller skins are now available to purchase.

A hardware accessories page popped up on Steam today, giving us a look at some of the types of things that will be available for purchase soon. These include accessories like a wireless receiver, carrying case, and multiple skins for the Steam Controller and Steam Link.

Four different skins are available for Steam Controllers. One of them is based on the Portal series, while the other three bear the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive logo on top of various designs. Additionally, there are three matching Counter-Strike skins for Steam Link, the PC-to-TV streaming device. Each skin currently costs $7 ($10 regularly). You can check them all out in the gallery below.

In addition to the skins, Steam also has pages up for a wireless receiver for $9 ($13), carrying case for $14 ($20), and battery door for $7 ($10). Steam Controllers are normally $50, but you can purchase one right now from Amazon for $35.

The Steam store's battery door has a spot where you can put a wireless receiver, but if you'd rather make one of your own, Valve has made that much easier. The company released the Steam Controller's mechanical CAD geometry back in March, allowing people to more easily create and customize the controller with a 3D printer.

To make the Steam Controller, Valve created a robot assembly line with Aperture logos and all. It released a video of the assembly, and the process is surprisingly interesting.

[UPDATE] This story has been updated with prices for every accessory.

I really want to try one of these. I understand the learning curve it entails, but I want one. Anyone know if there are any mass retailers with demo models out?

@gamingdevil800: checked one a couple days ago, while it feels really cheap is very comfortable indeed.

@gamingdevil800: It's actually pretty good, but there are some games that don't work right with it. Prince of Persia (2008) is one of those games. It won't even launch if you have it plugged in.

@gamingdevil800: I have mine since last spring. Love it. It take a few hours to get used to because its so different but once you are used to it, it becomes a good alternative to a keyboard and mouse for most games. FPS are still hit or miss on it but I would say overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

I got one late last year and haven't touched it in more than 8 months...

What are controller skins for? It's not like you're looking at the controller while you play the game

@Raidendude153: Well, the controller only comes in one color right now. Skins would be one way to avoid getting them mixed up if you have more than one.

@Raidendude153: at first with stuff like OG xbox and PS2 it was nice to mod them with clear or colored shells and put LED's in them to get rid of the black plastic generic electronic box......but now that its on the shelf prebuilt its a waste of time and the stuff they put out has no style......and not many LED lights.....would be nice if sony or MS did a clear shell with RGB light sets and a custom controller with color wheel for both on the controller.....that would be awesome.......and dont make it a limited run put one production line on it.....you only need to change the color of plastic going in to the molding machine and put the light kit in on a USB controller....

I suppose you're right, at the end of the day people love buying meaningless stuff especially if it's depicting a game they spend dozens of hours on.
