Welcome back to Avalon.

The recent trend of reviving classic RPGs isn't stopping any time soon. Back from the days when Square Enix was still SquareSoft, Romancing SaGa 2 localization releases next week.

Romancing SaGa 2 was originally released about 25 years ago in 1993 for the SNES--since then, it has be re-released on the Wii virtual console in 2010, the Wii U virtual console in 2014, and the 3DS earlier this year in Japan only. It's also seen ports on iOS and Android.

Now Playing: Romancing SaGa 2 – Announcement Trailer

In 2016, Square Enix announced that a PS Vita port of the game would be localized for the West for the first time. Now, on December 15, that localization will be expanded to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

As early '90s RPGs typically go, Romancing SaGa 2 is typical of what was popular in its time. What separates it from Square's other RPGs is that it has the open scenario system. Players take on the role of the emperor or empress of Avalon, and through a series of turn-based RPG action, that character eventually withers and dies. But not all hope is lost; different abilities and features are passed on to each new heir as one character dies.

This remaster still retains the original content of the game with updated high-res visuals, and some added extras. A new dungeon, two new classes, a new game system called the Avalon Gardens, an additional scenario, and new game plus have been added.

Hopefully we won't have to wait long for Romancing SaGa 3's remake, which is already out in Japan.

I've never played the Romancing Saga games, but I played the heck out of Saga Frontier on the PS1.

I've been waiting for it to go on sale on the iPhone but I don't think it ever does. $20 is kinda high for a phone app, but I'll be getting this on the Switch for sure.

Golden era RPGs are GOLDEN. At first, i though it was thoose Saga Frontier games on psx, but i was wrong. NICE being wrong like this!

EDIT: What surprise me is the Xbox version. All of the 5 buyers will be pretty happy about it (JK).

Now, hope ppl buy it to incentive other unlocalized games to be released, like Treasure of Rudras (this one, imho, its as good as ffvi and CT), Star Ocean 1, Seiken Densetsu 3, front mission and Bahamut Lagoon!

FINAL EDIT: Hope capcom see this and release the old breath of fire games too!

@everson_rm: Star Ocean 1 has already been localized. They released the PSP remake, Star Ocean First Departure, in the west. I would love to see Bahamut Lagoon get an official localization and a remaster, that game was so good its a pity it never got an official release outside of Japan.

Saga games were always kind of hit or miss, but being a golden era RPG I'll likely grab it at some point.

When I was a kid, I always thought is was "Salsa Frontier" & "Romancing Salsa", (due to the typography). Surely I'm not the only one...?
