Climax Studios teases Prince of Persia-esque title

Now-removed images show a tech demo for an unannounced "character action platformer."

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories developer Climax Studios has uploaded screenshots for an upcoming title that resemble a Prince of Persia-style game.

The now-removed images for the unannounced title--dubbed by Climax as a "character action platformer"--were marked as a tech demo.

The leaping, bounding protagonist is shown sporting a white vest and red sash, and the architecture in the background of one shot resembles the Middle Eastern aesthetic of Ubisoft's Prince of Persia series.

Ubisoft has said the Prince of Persia series is currently "paused," but that the game remains part of the publisher's portfolio.

"Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft's portfolio," said Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat in January. "As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest. Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft. As soon as we have something to show, we will."

The last Prince of Persia title--Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands--was released in 2010.

Climax Studios is also working on another project, which also remains unnamed, though the framing of the screenshots suggests a game with horror themes.

haha good to see GS used the WW thumbnail ;)

Though Im a bit confused. It;s without doubt PoP yet Climax is Disney owend irrc. Makes me question the involvement of the film or Mechner.

PS: PLAY FORGOTTEN SANDS ON WII!! (has the platforming and is a solid tittle. lots a extra goodies too)

I really really was in love with PoP right up until Forgotten Sands. That was one shitty PoP imho. I have played all PoP before at least 5 times. I barely managed to force myself to finish FS...

@LilithN Completely agree....the art style was ugly, the soundtrack was painfully generic, the combat is one of the worst I've ever seen, horrible storyline, extremely bland enemy design..

Forgotten Sands simply screams "generic" in every way..

@Navardo95 I would love to see a new PoP like Two Thrones was, that was awesome. I must admit I really liked POP 2008 too. It was sooo I dont know relaxing, I loved the art style, the soundtrack and the story. :)

@Navardo95 Completely agree with you my friend. POP was my favourite franchise, I still treasure my 100 year old Sands of Time videogame box :) Give us back the real POP! He would kick Kratos's ass :D Now I'm gone to install TT again ^^ Wish you a goodnight!

@LilithN @Navardo95 Absolutely I get what you're saying when I first started playing the reboot I was disappointed at how it was way too different than any PoP but as I played it more and more it started to grow on me...it was fantastic! :)

I too loved TTT...the atmosphere,the soundtrack,the gameplay,the visuals,the story...boy it was a lovely experience..

Forgotten Sands isn't even worthy of the title "Prince Of Persia" and if the next main entry in the PoP series is anything like FS...then I'm out...

I want Ubisoft to take PoP to a new direction...story wise i.e...

With Climax Studios behind it, I'll be probably be passing on this. In my opinion, they haven't developed one good game yet.

"As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises (Assassin's Creed) and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow (Rayman), or time to rest (Beyond Good and Evil). The resting title is the one I want to see.

AssCreed needs to be "paused" next after IV comes out or whatever number they're on now. They shouldn't just abandon one franchise for another. That's called Square Enixing it.

"Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft." In words of Nelson from Simpsons: "Ha ha ha." So important that they forgot about it when AC became popular and a great big cow to milk. I loved first two ACs but then it kinda became too much.

But, on the other hand, these screens look good and I'm hoping it really is some kind of a step forward in long pause in (rebooted) PoP history. It's one of the most important franchises in history of gaming (imho) with great reboot in 2003 and two sequels that made amazing trilogy. And another rebbot which was different in lot ways but still interesting. And FS. Original PoP from '89. is my favorite game of all times, and if this really is related to PoP I'm glad someone finally took interest in breathing life in this long dormant and (unfairly) shadowed by AC frenchise.

I hope it's not actually Prince of Persia. I mean, if it's kind of like Prince of Persia, but isn't associated with the franchise, then there's more room for creativity. But if it's actually PoP, people are going to have expectations, and last time that happened, a great game like the 2008 remake got overlooked by many PoP fans.

Why can't people try and be creative and come up with something new. A new IP would be greatly appreciated. At least call this thing something else. I've already played the original Prince of Persia back in the early 90's and then the terrible reboot ( came out for Dreamcast), then the other reboot, then the other reboot. STOP... MAKE IT STOP JUST .........

@4r0d0 I can agree with AC but Prince of Persia? No man no...this is a golden franchise that isn't being milked...all they need is take it to a new direction..i.e something that is not related to sands anymore..the sands story was amazing but I want them to go to somewhere brand new.

Reboot requires effort. Riding on what made the earlier iterations popular is a recipe for disaster. It's too early to say for sure, but looking at these images, I immediately thought, 'The Forgotten Sands'. That's not a good sign.

'Sands of Time' and PoP 2008 were winners in my book because they were bold enough to make big changes and transform PoP into fresh new games.

as much as i want a POP game i just feel they have missed the potential that this series offers. for a long time.

My idea of a POP. would be.

A dark world where our main prince is not some happy choppy guy , but a more darker character who is a formidable warrior. In a world filled with formidable warriors and magic. He is not like kratos, but a character which is to be taken seriously, with supernatural powers. In a power struggle.

In gameplay, how about tons of enemies going at you, to an extreme.

And one thing no game has done in an action adventure. Use real time battlefields. of two huge armies going into each other , and you being in the midst. Also using strategy, and becomming a general similar to total war.

the world will need to look beutiful. Instead of open world. Give us a story which really mans up ,.heck take a look at persian ancient history if so, and explore themes of that.

Their is potential to make the main prince dangerous and lethal.

yh sort of , with a more AC3 feel of the battlefield [taken with its potential, which has more interaction] . Brought to next gen.

Anti-Disney in many aspects . like gore and mature adult themes.

They rebooted PoP once before... and I loved it. Only to find out it's fanbase didn't and there would never be a sequel. Hard to be excited for something I didn't want.

@Adavanter I loved the reboot. Flawed ... Yes. But that game could have been made into something so much better. Awesome art and great platforming. Fighting could have been better. Elika and Prince story line was not perfect but a great start.

@Adavanter I didn't really like that one. The art style was great, but the "never die" ability, the "once in a while enemy that would never kill you" and constant platforming got boring and tiring (after a while). However, I did like the ending, and would have really loved to see what happened after the screen faded into darkness.

PS, He wasn't a Prince nor was he in Persia (so why Prince of Persia)- They should have named it Princess of Persia (lol). I also didn't like that his Horses name was Farah,
