Nintendo offers various gifts to customers who accumulate points by purchasing various 3DS and Wii U games

Club Nintendo, the loyalty program that launched in 2007 and supplied free gifts to owners of the Nintendo DS, Wii, 3DS and Wii U, is to close down in September.

Nintendo says it is "working hard to create a new program," which is expected to launch later in the year. No further details were disclosed, aside from Nintendo's pledge that those who sign up to the new program will receive a free copy of Flipnote Studio 3D for the 3DS.

Existing Club Nintendo members have until September 30 to spend their remaining currency of Stars. After this cut-off date, all remaining Stars will be deleted.

By the end of April, new games from Nintendo will no longer come with reward points. A full discontinuation schedule, written by Nintendo, can be found below.

The New Nintendo 3DS, which will launch across North America and Europe on February 13, will not come with Club Nintendo reward points.

Launched in 2007, Club Nintendo has been offering loyal customers a range of gifts to claim in exchange for points accumulated. Prizes range from apparel to wallpapers, mobile ringtones, soundtracks and toys. The program has more than six million members, Nintendo said.

In a notice published on the Nintendo website, the company added: "There are plenty of unique and exclusive items already available in the Stars Catalogue, and we’ll keep adding more over the coming months, so there’s plenty to spend your Stars on before September 30th 2015."

Club Nintendo Discontinuation Schedule

April 1st 2015: From this date, Nintendo will no longer include product registration cards with its packaged games, so such products cannot be registered in Club Nintendo. You may still find product registration cards in games that were in stock before this date, however.

April 20th 2015: Termination of the registration of digital products downloaded from Nintendo eShop. Digital products obtained from Nintendo eShop after this date will no longer appear in the My Registered Games & Systems page in Club Nintendo. In addition, surveys for download software titles will no longer be available.

September 30th 2015: End of Club Nintendo programme. All Club Nintendo features, such as signing up as a new member, logging in as a registered member, earning Stars, and exchanging Stars for items from the Stars Catalogue will no longer be possible from this date.

I got a lot of neat items out of this program before things started shifting to digital games and I stopped buying Nintendo systems. A Mario hat, an invincibility star shoulder bag, and Mario Hanafuda cards were the coolest prizes I got. It would have been nice to have gotten the golden nunchuck too. All in all I probably have spent close to 2000 coins on things.

So while the The New Nintendo 3DS won't come with any Club Nintendo reward points, will it come with whatever the new program needs (assuming it needs something)? Or even when the new program begins there still won't be anything in the box to input?

It was nice getting the Club Nintendo reward points especially when they done the free game offer so if the New 3DS comes with nothing and then if they release something new in the box later, then those who buy the console in Feb will lose out. If that was the case then would make more sense buying the console after the new program has released.

Got a Question. So I have 910 coins already and some more codes I haven't put into my account yet. I know I can reach platinum but can I get platinum twice? Cause Im pretty sure the codes I have will reach 610 coins.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Nah, you can only go platinum once per Nintendo season. Any extra coins won't carry over to the next Nintendo season, I would have platted 3 times over then for last season. Not like it's going to matter anyway since they're doing away with the coin reward system so its up to you if you want to get all those coins in now and get out of it whatever you can. I'm probably going to be spending the 1025ish coins I have left on digital titles but I want to see what's coming out in February first.

I highly doubt that the new program will be better. Nintendo is cancelling club Nintendo because members were complaining that they are only getting digital stuff rather than physical.

I have 970 points, my status is platinum and so far I can't see anything worthy to spend my coins on, hopefully the upcoming rewards will be worthy.

Hopefully the new rewards system will be better, the fact that last year's platinum and gold awards were all digital games (that many people on Neogaf pointed out they already had) was really disappointing.

That's too bad; it was a good (not great) rewards program. The Nintendo digital deluxe program was a hell of a rewards program though!

What? Just what?

Isn't it the point of a system to play games on it? What is the connection between the club and the Wii? Also the Wii has been replaced by the WiiU for a whike now

I just recently hit Platinum status for the first time. I guess it will the first and only time I make it to the Platinum status, what a shame.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I was just reading the fine print at the reward site. They pushed the deadline up, to March 31, 2015. The 2015 rewards look like download only.

My loyalty "expired" when I found out the stars on my account could.

That was a shame really, RIP my loyalty to Nintendo 1988 - 2010.

At least those stupid surveys will be gone. What a pain it was to fill out each time when registering a game.

Stars? I thought the currency for Club Nintendo was Coins.

Sad to see Club Nintendo end but it's been going downhill for awhile now. The coolest stuff to be offered always sold out so fast and there were even scalpers that depleted the stock just to sell it on eBay. I'm hoping they'll put up some really nice stuff for the end so I can use up my Coins on something other than just DLC games.

Hopefully the new program is at least as good. People can say that it was crap all they want, but neither Sony or Microsoft offer anything similar.

I wish they would implant some kind of trophy system... A mushroom/fireflower/star system would be cool for the Wii U where mushroom achievements = bronze, fire flower = silver , star = gold trophies and maybe put a Bowser head as platinum? (not so sure about the plat one).
