Would-be professional gamers will descend on Grapevine, Texas, in early July. That's where the Cyberathlete Professional League will stage its Cyberathlete Extreme Summer Championship 2005 from Wednesday, July 6, through Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the new Gaylord Texan Resort. The event marks the seventh anniversary of the formation of the CPL and will offer over $200,000 in prizes to the best of the best.

This year's game lineup is almost exclusively populated by first-person shooters. Players will compete in Counter-Strike: Source, Counter-Strike 1.6, Day of Defeat, Warcraft III, Halo 2, and Painkiller. The Dallas-based CPL expects more than 6,500 players from more than 60 countries to show up for the event, which is the last chance for American competitors to advance to the million-dollar CPL World Tour.
