Crackdown 3 Release Date Delayed

The anticipated Xbox One and PC game needs more time.

Crackdown 3 will no longer launch on November 7 alongside the Xbox One X. Microsoft confirmed today that the Xbox One and PC action game is now coming in Spring 2018.

In a statement to Polygon, Microsoft Studios GM Shannon Loftis said delaying the game will give studios Reagent Games, Sumo Digital, and Cloudgine the time they need to deliver the "hugely ambitious" game to their quality standards.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Crackdown 3 Delayed To Spring 2018

"We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it's a difficult call to move the release date," Loftis told the site. "However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that's campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018."

More specifically, Loftis said the extra time will give the development teams the time they need to "focus on the visual polish" in an effort to make a game that "completely" immerses players in a "living world."

"We want them to really feel the larger-than life enemies as they're exploring the expansive open world, combatting crime, and collecting orbs," she said.

This is just the latest delay for Crackdown 3. The game, or at least a part of it, was originally scheduled to arrive in 2016. When it was delayed to 2017, creative director Dave Jones said the game's multiplayer experience "will redefine what it feels like to play games." Loftis confirmed on Twitter that the entire Crackdown 3 is delayed to Spring 2018, not just one part of the full package that includes campaign, co-op, and a Wrecking Zone mode.

Microsoft is expected to release new footage of Crackdown 3 during Gamescom 2017 later this month. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

At San Diego Comic-Con last month, Microsoft released a new trailer that showed off actor Terry Crews' character, Commander Jaxon--check out the video embedded above.

Wow. Xbox users definitely got shafted this generation round. I have both consoles, plus PC, so I don't have bias for one or the other. But Xbox definitely got bottom of the barrel this time round

@nabinator: I wouldn't say Xbox fans are getting the bottom of the barrel (I still think multiplats keep most of us busy) but the MS games are a frickin' joke.

Still frickin' salty from Scalebound.

@LPDisturbedHU: Yes, that's true, the best games out there are still multiplats. Just a shame Xbox hasn't had any outstanding exclusives this gen. Especially now its 4 years since its launch. Compare to that to PS4's library of exclusives, and Xbox players have truly been left in the dust

@nabinator: "Ori and the Blind Forest", "Sunset Overdrive", and "D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die" are all stand outs to me, but yeah, the rest are either sequels that did well (but not incredibly well critically, unless you're Forza Horizon 2&3) or are new IP that did decently review wise, but didn't do anything crazy (QB, Recore, Ryse, etc were all great games, but were held back due to some major flaws).

I feel that Kinect Sports Rivals does deserve a little bit more love than it gets, but people will always hate on Kinect titles. Also thought Crimson Dragon was a bit underrated too, but I understand why some people aren't totally into it.

Do have to agree that PS4 has had a bunch of great exclusives recently, but I do truly hope MS has gotten smart enough to get a bunch of those third parties to bring those games over. It's crazy that games like Hellblade aren't owned by Sony, but aren't releasing on Xbox (as of yet).

@LPDisturbedHU: If it wasn't for Sunset Overdrive and 4k blu-ray (on my 1S anyway), I'd feel pretty jipped. Other than that, I only turn it on to play my remastered Treasure games from the 360. I've always liked Xbox, but it's like they're constantly taking steps backwards. I want to be excited about 1X, but I can only play so many Forza games, and unless they show something at Gamescom, I'll just stick with PS pro.

@LPDisturbedHU: I wouldn't really call Ori an exclusive, seeing as I have it on Steam. It is great though. I thought Sunset was alright. Can't comment on D4. I enjoyed Halo 5, but definitely not their greatest hit. And to take away splitscreen, dear me.

Meanwhile just last month alone on PS4 we had Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy, which is still topping charts. FFXII remaster, which is probably the best remaster I've played in years.

@nabinator: Like I've been saying since Crash N' Sane Trilogy was announced, I'm pretty sure it's come to Xbox and PC. It was never announced as an exclusive (which all other games do), but it's definitely a solid get for PS, whether it be timed or not.

I would not be surprised to see some of the third party exclusives that PS has coming to Xbox fairly soon, especially since SE and MS seem to be having a stronger relationship the past few years.

I honestly just hope all these third party deals come to a halt (or at least lessen by a lot). I hate the fact exclusives exist in the first place.

@LPDisturbedHU: Scalebound dumped a truck load of salt into my cereal too and I don't even have an X1. I wanted a reason to get one though.

Lol, the game looked like a garbage 360 game during the comicon footage. That's why they delayed it.

I'm okey with that. I want it to be the best as it can be when it releases. Plus there are a lot of great games coming out around november, so it's a good thing it doesn't get overcrowded by those games.

MS is doing Xbox1 a disservice when they don't release exclusive content. Without exclusives, it's just a multi-plat machine, which is the same but less popular than the competition. They need system sellers at this point. If Titanfall hadn't gone multi-plat and I hadn't lost interest in Halo, I would've picked up the X1 by now.

I am really not expecting this game to be an also AAA game but with so much in the line this game has to be at least an 8.5 game and no lower than that Microsoft will make sure of that. If this game would have been release in November of this year it probably would have been an awful game between a 7.5 to an 7.8 type of score but It seems to me the delay will help this game and might at least make sure that this game will be better and probably the extra time might get it to some 8.5 to 8.7 type of score. I guess we gonna have to wait and see.

@xenomorphalien: If you don't think that a 7.5 score for a expected AAA game is not awful, then you must have a loose screw in your head. Microsoft is Expecting this game to score really high scores between 8.8s and higher and this game has been marketed as a AAA title. 7.5 score is awful for a game that is expected to get scores that a AAA game should get. Yes A 7.5 is awful. I personally not even consider buying a game that score less than a 8.0 score

@angrycreep: Usually I use the IGN scale of scores because it makes sense.

7 range is good. Not great or amazing, but good.

Awful would be like a 3

@angrycreep: Awful is a 4 or below. Hell, I think 4 (or maybe 5) is a "Fair".

@angrycreep: So you rely on scores (aka other people's opinions) when it comes to what games you are willing to play? Sorry friend but I think it's you that has a loose screw.

@killercondoms: So how do you do it when you buy your games, do you flip a coin and hope that you didn't throw your money away in a peace of crap type of game. Probably you play anything awful or good you just don't care you play anything. For me money is at a premium this days and you just can't go and get something that is not worth your money and you end up throwing it to the side and in the process throwing your money away. I rather have an opinion and I just don't settle in a single review from one place to make my decision I read many reviews from many deferent trusted game places and if 6 of them say is good and two say that is bad then the overall opinion is that is a good game.

@angrycreep: Rather simple really, I stick to the games I like to play and stay away from the ones I don't. Renting or borrowing games also helps me determine if I will enjoy a game or not. I also watch a lot of game play videos on games I am not sure about to see if that is something I might enjoy. Everyone has different opinions and just because a few turn around and say the game is good doesn't mean that you yourself is gonna enjoy that game. If that's how you do it that's fine but it just seems like that method has some big flaws to it. You could be missing out on some great games that did not receive the score you tend to gravitate to because the people reviewing it may have different tastes then you. For example, 7DaysToDie received a 2 from GS but I love that game, I have it for PC and PS4 because I really enjoy playing it.

@angrycreep: No, 7.5 is not an 'awful game'. A game scoring 5-6 is an average game, possibly with issues but a 7.5 is something above that and worthy of playing.

I'm not a big crackdown fan but delays to improve the game is what this generation has been. As long as it doesn't turn out to be a no man's sky or drive club after release then it doesn't matter. If it releases broken after the delay the game will for sure tank.

@blablazer: True but a game such as this one being delayed several times because it's "not up to their standards" getting released broken will definitely have an impact not only on the franchise but on the devs reputation. So let's hope that's not the case.

When a ps game is delayed:"i am ok with that, give them time to polish things"

When a xbox game is delayed...erm...look at the comments below.

Well,MS underestimated the console wars, they thought they can continue with the (unspectacular) cell shaded graphics like the previous entries.

Forza is my baby anyway and now some other games got my attention...Dragons Dogma,Okami and Witcher 3 after the enchancement.

@sladakrobot: looking forward to those three games too. Wanted to replay Okami for the longest time, never given dragons dogma a fair chance on ps3, and as i was just about to start witcher 3 during e3 period, Red announced Pro and x support so I wait ?

@sladakrobot: naw, crackdown has no hope of being any good whether it was delayed or not. it is a lost cause. people didn't mind when uncharted was delayed since they knew it would be great and can trust a developer like naughty dog to deliver. get real for a second... crackdown looked awful at e3. i expect a 6/10 when all is said and done... then again, microsoft may just pull the plug like they did with scalebound :D

@Xristophoros: People need to stop using words like awful. It did not look awful. Disappointing possibly, but to me it looked like Crackdown. The single player is virtually guaranteed to be fun, the multiplayer has the potential to be groundbreaking as destruction has never been done on this scale before. Why can't we talk about these things instead!

I swear people have actually lost sight of what gaming is, its supposed to be fun - it's supposed to take you away from your own mundane life - to entertain you, challenge you, move you emotionally. Not all games have to be story driven masterpieces, not all games have to be the epitome of technical graphical brilliance. The gaming community is becoming toxic and it's starting to really put me off, because of people like you who rub game delays in peoples faces - seem joyful when a game doesn't meet expectations due to the platform the game is released on.

Maybe you should rethink why you game, and why you comment on here. Your comment is not constructive or adding to the conversation it's just trying to start an argument. Would you be happy if Microsoft pulled the plug on Crackdown? I certainly wouldn't because I want to play it, I hope it doesn't go the way of Scalebound - sounds like you hope it does. Pathetic.
